Topic: Great Site!
Message: Hello everyone, this is a great site, with a lot of useful
dialog. The love and support for these bikes seems to be immense. I am
seriously considering a new Bullet 500. I like the classic version with
less chrome. I am very interested in vintage racing, and learning what
type of mods are allowable. Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Feel free to e-mail me at jkruger@portland.quik.com
Thanks in advance!

Topic: Maintenance record
Message: My husband is interested in buying a military Enfield,
but he has heard that you need to be a mechanic to own one or to have
a mechanic as a close friend. Is this true? Any information that can be
provided on the maintenance record of the military Enfield would be a
great help.
This is a common but false assumption.
Like any 50-60's motorcycle the Bullet requires maintenance, but the maintenance
and repair required can generally be done by anyone who can read or dial
the telephone. Unlike modern machines which are very sophisticated and
DO require specialized training in Mechanics and Electronics the Royal
Enfield is a very basic, simple machine. They are designed for the do-it-yourselfer.
The hand tool kit which comes with the bike will allow you to accomplish
the majority of all maintenance and repair procedures required. The addition
of a basic socket set and a Crescent wrench makes you undefeatable. The
owners manual is good and the shop manual (available for $20) is simple
and well written with many good illustrations. We also staff a "help"
line for individual questions. It is true that maintenance and adjustments
are required on this bike, but they are all within the scope of the average
person.

Topic: OLD LOVE
Message: I owned a 1979 350cc bullet back in India. Rode it all
through my college days, was in love with that machine. Had to sell it
after immigrating to USA. I am now settled in California, can anyone tell
me if I can own one in California, and if so what dealers are near Bay
area.
Even California can't tell you what
you can own (within some ill-defined limits), however they can control
what you can register and license. Because California has a set of administrative
standards generated by the Clean Air Resource Board (CARB) a motorcycle
manufacturer has to do some special testing to be allowed to sell street
legal bikes in California. How kit bike type manufacturers or small custom
bike fabricators do it I don't know. In addition to making some relatively
minor engineering changes the most painful part is writing the enormous
check which is required to complete the process. At this time we have
not applied to CARB. We will apply in the not too distant future. We don't
know this as fact, but are told by some customers that it is legal to
purchase a bike in another state and then register it in California. As
I said we aren't sure about this----my best advice is to check with your
local DMV

Topic: Bought One!!!
Message: My previous post said that I was "thinking about" buying a Bullet.
Well I did just that, got a deluxe though, liked the more dressed look
of it. I purchased it from Jim Petitti of Raceway Services in Salem Oregon.
What a gem of a human being!!! I can't endorse Jim and his operation enough,
a true pleasure to do business with. He is making some mods to the bike
before I pick it up. I feel better about this purchase than any other
I've made. Get this...Jim is even delivering my Bullet right to my front
door, going to hand me the keys himself. Customer service isn't dead,
you just have to search hard to find it. Even if it's a drive for you,
I would highly recommend Raceway Services and Jim Petitti.

Topic: Royal
Enfield. It's Back. (On the road.)
Today we started the road show for the new millennium ( I'm so sick of
that word I promise to never use it again) Our trailer has a fresh paint
job that is awesome. You won't miss Royal Enfield going down the road.
Our first show is in Ft.
Worth Texas this weekend. We have 6 crates with the first of the 2000
models waiting for us there. I am very excited to see these new bikes
with all of the latest manufacturing improvements on them.

Topic: Self Imported?
Message: I own an Enfield Bullet 500 in Dubai, UAE (the Middle East) I
was told it was a USA spec. When I return to the USA (I currently work
here) can I import the bike with my household goods and license it in
USA?? Has anyone had experience doing this?
It is highly unlikey that your bike
is actually made to US specs, which among other things include a very
specific tags of compliance with DOT and EPA. All bikes which come into
the USA must be certified by both the factory and the US importer. Your
best bet is to sell the bike and get a new or used one when you get home.

Topic: Return of Royal Enfield
Message: Glad to see the Enfield name and motorcycle back.I think the
world is ready for a motorcycle that returns to the days when riders didn't
need engineering degree's to do simple maintinence on there bikes. So
what if it doesnt go thru the quarter mile in a flash...Myself I like
to enjoy the scenery, not a blur..Long live Enfield!

Topic: Engine
Message: Is the 499cc engine rubber mounted?
Neither the 350 or 500cc engine is
Rubber mounted. First of all we wouldn't want to isolate you from the
experience of being in touch with your machine. Actually the Bullet is
such a low rpm engine that vibration isn't a significant issue. Also the
engine is an integral part of the frame.

Topic: Coming to Indianapolis

Topic: Enfield hardware
Message: Folks...What standard are the nuts and bolts, etc...made to on
the Enfield Bullets from India; i.e. is it metric, or whitworth, or ???
Thanx...Douglas E. Larsen
The good news is BOTH metric and whitworth.
You get to have all of your tools on the floor when working on this bike.
Actually the bike itself is metric and most of the engine is whitworth.

Message: I am a new bullet 500 owner and I hope someone can help me with
a couple of questions. Is there a windshield that goes well with the bullet?
Also, when I am told that the transmision oil is mixed with 00 grease
what in the world is it and where do I get it? Thanks for any help and
suggestions.
A windshield is indeed available for
the Bullet. Your dealer can order it from us, or if you'd rather install
it yourself you can order it direct from us. ( The price from your dealer
will not be any more than getting it from us). The same is true of the
00 grease as used in your transmission. For what its worth 00 grease is
a substance that is not oil and not grease, it's in-between. It has the
consistency of mucous ( nice huh?).

Topic: Manual
Message: Thanks to Larry at Classic Motorworks for getting my shop manual
to me in record time and for the cool posters and calendar. Is there any
chance that the Enfield nameplate for the front fender will be sold to
US owners? It's just too cool not to have. thanx.
We hope to have the nameplates available
by late spring.
