Topic: Last Question
Message: Hey Kevin, Still waiting for the final
answer on the question concerning how many oil leaks the average Bullet
has.
(I still argue that it is four but will accept your judgement on the matter.)

Sarge,
We'll publish the answer soon in our next newsletter.

Topic: Wiring woes
Message: My 99 Bullet 500 runs fine except for one strange problem. When
I turn the headlight on all 4 indicators come on at the same time. Obviously
its some kind of short circuit but does anybody have any idea where to
check first before I start pulling apart all the spaghetti inside the
headlamp?
E-mail Address: [email protected]
STOP!
STOP! STOP!
do not start messing with the mass of wiring in the headlamp nacelle without
a plan and a wiring diagram. Trying to diagnose and fix an electrical
problem without a test lamp and/or an ohm meter /continuity tester is
a SURE ROUTE TO MADNESS. You problem is most likely the result of some
simple miswriting. If you approach it step by step using a wiring diagram
to tract wires and connections you will probably survive this exercise.
If you don't call your local mental hospital and have them warm up a bed.

Topic: To Board Manager
Message: I sent in a message to be posted over a week ago. The board won't
do much good (or get people to come to Enf-USA's web site) if messages
don't get posted. Last update is listed as 10/22.
Email Address: [email protected]
Your
message was posted the following day. However, the link from the "home"
page to the message board November was not changed(it's fixed now.) You're
right...that was not good..sorry for the delay, and thanks for the head's
up!

Message: i'D LIKE TO FIND A MILITARY RACK TO GO WHERE THE PASSENGER PAD
USUALLY GOES. i HAVE A SOLO SEAT ON MY MILITARY BULLET , BUT WOULD LIKE
SOMETHING SIMULAR TO THE OLD BMW MODELS.

Message: How does the "Bullet" compare to another bike that I had at one
time, i.e. a Yamaha SR500. Is there anybody out there that has ridden
both bikes. They would appear to be very similar, i.e. both are "big inch
singles" of 500cc. I plan on buying a new Bullet in January and just curious
as to the comparison. Thanks

Topic: BULLET W/ SUICIDE SHIFT?
Message: I have a miltary 500 and it had a problem with the neutral
finder and wouldn't go out of 1st gear. I had to use the nuetral finder
by hand to shift so it came to me ( since I've ridden a friend of mines
48 Indian) what about a suicide shift?
Email Address: [email protected]
There was a very good reason
why they were called "suicide shifts"

Topic: Enfield Accessories
Message: Any ETA for the Enfield USA accessories page. I'm very interested
in speed parts for the Bullet
As usual sourcing parts that
are high quality and really fit has taken much longer than I thought.
We will have high compression pistons with fitted and lightened pins this
week or next. High performance cams are next, but they are at least a
couple of months off. I thought we had exhaust systems in place, but I
wasn't happy with the fit of the samples we've received so we're starting
over. We believe that we will have a bolt on (no fabricating, no adapting)
solo seat soon. We will have some logo'd shirts in a week or two and a
very nice line of logo'd leather goods (coats, gloves, neck protectors
and saddlebags in 3-4 weeks) Other than the pistons we have ordered modest
quantities to see what sells. They will be offered first to those people
who are signed up for the newsletter. All of this is taking longer than
I wanted it to, but I think the end result will justify the wait

Topic: "stuff"
Message: If I'm going to buy a Bullet, I'll need things for it like a
good windshield, a GOOD luggage rack able to hold a lot of weight, and
maybe a set of leg shields to block the wind so I can ride it into the
winter months. Am also curious about the vibration level. I owned a Yamaha
sr 500 and 650 twin and their vibration didn't bother me. How does the
500 Bullet compare? I'd be very grateful to anyone who could answer this
question.
Thanks!

Topic: Valve adjustment
Message: Could anyone please tell me exactly how to adjust the valves
on the Bullet ? After setting up the bike correctly - piston at correct
position etc - you are confronted with a long hexangonal nut at the top
- the locknut undernearh that - and at the bottom is another nut. Just
which one(s) do you adjust ? I usually turn the bottom one until until
it is finger tight and then hold the top (larger one) whilst doing up
the lock-nut - but this always seems to make the whole setup too tight
- and it does not turn freely as it should. Just what is the procedure.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated - the manual just does not give
enough detail as to EXACTLY what to do. Many thanks. [email protected]
Well,
this is a good news/bad news story. Basically your technique is correct.
The bad news is that when you tighten the locknut you have to allow for
the mechanism lengthening a little, therefore making the adjustment a
little tighter than you intended. This is true when you are adjusting
any mechanical lifters with a locknut in any car or motorcycle. After
trying this somewhere between 75-80 times on each valve you will develop
a feel for it. (As well as an expanded 4 letter word vocabulary.) It truly
is trial and error. When it is correct you will be able to roll the pushrod
easily with your finger and yet have nil clearance or no up and down play
in the valve train.

Topic: Enfield Himalayas Tour
Message: I made an incredible trip this year, climbing Khardung La (18,380
feet!) on an Enfield 500cc. We brought a group from America, organized
by my company, and hired an Indian company to provide support & logistics.
We are already making arrangements to return in 2000. If anyone wants
the details, contact me at:

Message: Does anyone know if Bullet front forks would fit a 1966 RE
Continental GT? They certainly look similar in pictures.
