Message: Hi, Just heard from a friend that a 624cc engine is now available on the Bullet. Anyone know for sure or whether/when it will be available in the US? Thanks, Inder

That bike is not yet in production.

Topic: Fixing an exhaust leak

Message: My 1996 Bullet 500 Deluxe has an exhaust leak at the junction of the exhaust pipe and the head. The pipe is a slip fit into the head. I have been advised to try sealants and have tried three different ones unsuccesfully. I think that I may have come up with a much better fix.
Obtain an old tin can (I used an old chili bean can) that has the top fully removed by a regular can opener that cuts a disk out of the can, not one of the new ones that cuts around the circumference of the can.
Take a pair of sharp tin shears and cut around the circumference of the can about 1/4 inch down from the top of the "thick ridge". Take this shim to your bike and form it around the exhaust pipe. Trim the length of this strip so it is approximately the outside diamter of the exhaust pipe.
To help visualize the next step, think of what the pipe would look like if you had taken a piece of tape and applied it to the outer circumference of the pipe at the very end, effectively "building up" the outside diameter of the pipe.
Carefully slip the thin cut edge of the shim into the gap between the pipe and head. Carefully work the shim into place using a small regular tip screw driver and a flat tip push tool of some type (I used a tee handled allen wrentch) so that the thick rolled edge of the shim seats against the head.
I doubt that the gap is such that you will be able to slip / seat the entire length of the shim. Carefully trim the shim's length once you are unable to slip any more of the shim into place.
Go back with the flat tipped push tool and again verify the shim is seated firmly against the head. This trick should provide a very effective seal of the exhaust pipe to the head. This fix may work well, but there are a couple of notes of caution. The head is Aluminum and is softer than the pipe. You must be careful not ot use too much force therby cracking the head. An alternative fix is to get a simple "Tailpipe expander" and slightly expant the diameter of the pipe. kevin

Message: does any one know of any mods or aftermarket boxes to satisfy my lust for changing gears. any other tuning mods would be helpfull as im re-builing soon and dont want to do it again for a long time to come

Message: OK, the question is this. Can a 500cc carry two (270 LBS total) down the highway at 60 plus miles per hour? Does the 9 to 1 piston my local dealer is offering make this happen or not? Is it required for this type of riding? I love the style but you can't get anywhere around here without the freeway. 50 MPH in the right lane is too scary. Also what specifically are the "improvements" for the year 2000? He has '99's and doesn't seem to know. I'd like to email with owners, satisfied and not. Please email me at [email protected].

A stock 500cc Royal Enfield will easily do over 60mph with two people on it. 70-75 is more likely. The list of improvements on the 2000 models is too lengthy or outline here, but basically it involves fit and finish, electrical improvements, significant maching improvements, and oil tightness. Have your dealer look in the 2000 dealer book he received and he can find the entire list for you.

Topic: Head/Pipe Leak

Message: Greetings all from Merrie England. I note the above method for fixing the exhaust leak. I was thinking of simply wrapping round some aluminium foil around the end of the pipe before inserting into the head. What do you think guys ?

Topic: US , BRITISH & INDIAN SPEC BULLET

Message: Hi, Every body, I am planning to go for a Bullet. Can you tell me which one to choose for desert conditions, hot as 55 degrees during summer and cold as +10 degrees. Also what is the great defference in the above types often mentioned in the message boards. Is this all are of defferent specifications ? Suppose i take a bullet lightning I guess it is of 550 cc (?), what are the basic defferrence from each make?. Can I campare the bullet with Harley Davidson or similar brands?. Your answers are most welcomed, and highly appriciated.

Message: I just read on www.bullet.com that Enfield is coming out with a new and more powerful 535cc motor. True? Will it be available on the USA Bullet? When?

The 535 only has 1-2 more hp than the current 500cc. It is unlikely that it will be seen in the US in the near future

Message: Is the 624cc motor just a bored out 500 or is it the whole thing upgraded?

The 624 which is really only in the prototype stage has many differences from the 500. If this bike ever goes into production it remains to be seen which features will be seen on it.

Topic: electrical problem

Message: My '96 enfield has left my stranded several times due to an electrical short that blows the fuse. Anyone had this problem or know possible solution?

Check the rear brake light switch and the handlebar electrical contols first.

Topic: Gear Lube?

Message: Instead of using 00 grease (hard to find and/or expensive,) is there anything else that is suitable for lube in the Enfield's transmission? I was thinking of trying some Mobil SHC 634 synthetic gear and bearing oil, ISO 460 wt (approx. sae 140.) Does anybody have any experience or opinions on this?

Topic: 500cc and 350cc enfield

Message: 50CC transportation (Scooters running at 50MPH maximum) are pretty much all I have experienced with when it comes to 2-wheeled vehicles. I saw the Enfield at a local dealer here in Ft Wayne, IN and find it very visually appealing. I noticed that there are two different models avaialble, the 350CC and 500CC. Are there any major differences between the two models? My firends at school tells me to get the 500CC for the speed for freeway cruising. How significant is the performance difference between the 350CC and the 500CC version? Thanks.

There is only 4hp difference between the 350 and the 500. The 500 has a top speed of about 75mph while the 350 will do 65.

Message: On april 20th I listed on eBay the following RE parts and pieces: a new inner chaincase for a Bullet, a fork parts package from a '55 500 cc Scrambler, a rear wheel parts package from a '55 500cc Scrambler, a non-rebuilt transmission for a '50 ish Bullet, etc., and a '55 500 cc Scrambler frame (slightly different from the Bullet, a beefier swingarm and maybe lighter frame, as this was a off-road racer) Take a look if your interested. Message: sir my bike is enfield machismo 98 model .problem arises when we talk about it's head light which doesn't work properly when i switch it on ,it runs properly for some time but it gets dimme or low after some time.b'coz of which problem occurs while driving on indian roads.so sir can u kindly plz solve my problem.Even the service stations person are not able to solve it.

Sorry, I'm only familiar with the wiring for the US market. Maybe someone else online could help you.

Topic: Imports to Canada

Message: I notice another fellow asking about importing into Canada. The former Canadian importer hasn't brought any new Enfields in for a while. I looked into importing one from the States, but Transport Canada won't allow Enfields into Canada until they receive paperwork from the manufacturer stating that the Bullet meets Transport Canada safety standards. Are there any plans to sell Enfields to Canada?

We are working with the Candian importer right now to try and accomplish that goal. It will take time, but eventually we'll be able to sell in Canada.

Message: When we will be able to see the single seat and pillion seats on the web page? I'd like to order one, but I'd also like to see it before I do so. As a matter of fact, it migh be worth while to install one on a Bullet so we could get a good idea of how the seat looks installed. Also, any idea when the pedestrian slicers will become available? Thanks Luv that Enfield!!

Solo seats should be on the website within a week. The pedestrian slicers are being manufactured as we speak and will be with us within the month.

Topic: California Registration

Message: For those of you who, like me, really would like to have an Enfield in California, I've found what appears to be the definitive word from the DMV: Individuals are prohibited from importing, purchasing, or leasing a new vehicle from another state, unless the vehicle was manufactured for sale in California, and the Environmental Protection Agency label certifies the vehicle has California smog equipment. California considers a new vehicle to be any vehicle with less than 7,500 miles on the odometer at the time of purchase. My understanding of this is that, if the bill of sale says it has anything less than 7,500 miles, it will be considered "new." That would mean that, even if you move to another state and drive the thing around for a year, you still can't bring it back to California because it was new when you bought it. The good news: No problem importing and registering a USED Enfield, as no smog test is required and the $300 non-compliance fee that used to be imposed has been found unconstitutional. This comes straight from the mouth of a DMV employee.

We offer the usual disclaimers, as we did not obtain this data first hand, but it sounds impressive.
