Topic: Micarb Jetting
Message: What is the proper micarb jetting for a year 2000 500cc bullet
with a shorty muffler and a K & N filter on an otherwise stock Bullet?
Also what needle
notch height should be used? Climate and elevation is midwest USA.
There is no black and white answer to this question.
Each bike is different,
eachg combination of modifications is different, altitude and temperature
are
big factors. The only way to jet your bike correctly is to experiment
with
jets, needloe setting etc and then run the bike and read the plug. A black
plug is too rich, a white plug is too lean ( very bad), and a tan plug
is
just right. A good starting point is a 115 main jet and the needle in
it's
stock location

Topic: Beware of buying outside U.S.
Message: I purchased a 1997 500cc Enfield Bullet from Australia in
December. The Motorcycle arrived in Phoenix, Az this week and is sitting
at the freight company incurring daily storage charges. Customs will not
release the motorcycle to me because it does not meet EPA and DOT compliance
and I have been informed by a number of brokers as well as EPA in Washington,
D.C., that it could cost me up to $15,000, as well as additional transportation
costs back and forth between Arizona and California before the motorcycle
is U.S.A. compliant. Everyone needs to be aware of this. I was not advised
of this by the seller or thru eBay. Whats the deal on this?
Unfortunately your experience is the norm. the
pages of this message board
have been littered with souls in your position. You will jsut have to
chalk
it up to experience.

Topic: Re: Electric starter
Message: The electric starter seemed to work very well. I watched
the mechanic at my local dealer run through a line of them and they all
immediately jumped to life. It was a very cold morning (for Texas, I think
it was 40) and he had to restart one a couple of times until the engine
warmed up, but they sounded very strong. He said he started them once
a week to keep them running well, and he hadn't had to use a battery charger
yet. My concern was the tires. I've never ridden a bike with those narrow
tires, especially ones that weren't rounded on the sides of the tread.
Do these bikes handle well?

Topic: chain tension
Message: i'd like
to ask for the proper, primary chain and rear chain, deflection. I've
checked out the online manual and it recommends a 0.4 milimeters primary
chain deflection, wich can't be true... If you can help me on that subject
i'd be grateful. Thank you in advance.
For the primary
chain, the proper deflection at the middle of the upper run
of chain is 5mm, or for those of you who are metrically challenged about
3/16
of an inch of an inch. On the upper end use 6 mm. Take this measurement
at
several placed in the chain, by rotating the engine with the kickstart
lever.
Don't catch your fingers in the chain please.
As for the drive chain the correct deflection (taken at the midpoint of
the
lower run of chain -- again try it in several places) is 20-30mm or about
3/4" to 1 3/8 inches.

Topic: kick the 500
Message: I have a 500 since 3 month, driving it every day thru rural
India. Kicking is as hard as opening my waste-basket (in other words,
a 10-year-old / 90 year old could do it)
of course the timing has to be right (mine's electronic = always right)
and in the morning I kick 3 times ignition off before I fire her up.
