There's a vent hose that comes out of the carburetor just below the choke
lever. The other end came disconnected and I can't figure out where it
goes. Can someone point me in the right direction ?

Topic: first bike
Message: I'm just getting into cycling and have always had a
fondess for British bikes. I'd like to start out with something smaller
and manageable and have been considering a new 350 Bullet Classic. Does
anyone have any comments about that? Is it right for someone in my position?
Is it a good, reliable bike? I'll use it for occasional communting and
occasional short and medium-distance leisure rides. I don't think an older,
vintage machine is right for me given my lack of mechanincal experience.
I thought it would be better to start new, learn what I'm doing, and then
move back into vintage in time.

Topic: good for beginner?
Message: I have always loved the classic look and style of the
Royal Enfield and I was wondering if this would be a good bike to check
out for an adult without much experience with motorcycles. My plan is
to have a bike I can use for quick trips back and forth to the hospital
(mainly in town driving). I have also been looking at the Triumph but
think the R.E. might be a better way to go, and certainly cheaper. Main
concern would be reliability, etc. Am used to doing much of own maintenance
on engines.

Topic: No Buyer's Remorse
Message: I posted in April about putting a deposit down on a
2002 Bullet 500 ES and just waiting for it to arrive. Well it has since
arrived and I just turned 1500 miles. I have done little to it other than
replace a split breather hose (apparently this is common. Why don't they
just put the correct diameter hose on in India?), keep an eye on the engine
oil level, lube the chain, and take it to the dealer at 500 miles for
tweaking. I ride the bike to work everyday (weather permitting) and on
weekends and I get at least one positive response/reaction every time
I'm out and about. I've even had one fellow follow me home to inquire
about the make. I've hosted many Q&A sessions at gas stations, store
parking lots, stop lights and with people thru their open windows while
riding along! In addition to enjoying all the attention this bike garners
(from all ages and make allegiances), I also genuinely enjoy simply riding
the bike. I knew what to expect when I bought my Bullet as !
far as its limitations and peculiarities and I have yet to be disappointed
or regret my purchase. I hope this is helful to those contemplating their
own purchases.

Topic: h.p increase with goldstar silencer and high-perform air filter
Message: Hello,
I'm thinking about adding a Gold Star Style Silencer (part no. z-goldstar-silencer)
and a K&N high-performance air filter (z-filter-28chrome) to my 500.
You mention the goldie doesn't require modifications to mount. I assume
that doesn't include re-jetting the carb? With this combo, can I expect
a 2 hp or so increase in output? I'm leaning away from adding a bigger
carb as I want to preserve the bike's great gas mileage. Eventually I
plan on adding an 18 tooth countershaft sprocket for a bit more top-end
speed. Advice on jetting?
thanks

Topic: 2002ES RE 500 Military
Message: I love the bike. I would reccommend one to anyone. My
question is in regards to engine modifications. I see many products touted
but no performance figures. If I purchase an exhaust and carb what are
the HP/torque gains. If I purchase an exhaust/carb springs and cams? If
I purchase all of these and the head?
Also, concerning reliability. What are the weak links? I see electronic
ignition, high volume oil pumps, etc. What are the three most worthwhile
(and cost efective) reliability modifications to reduce wear and prolong
life of parts?

We don't publish
HP claims because we don't know!!! Actually most accessory dealers don't
know. It takes a lot of time and money to dyno test each and every modification.
Also power is so dependent upon which combinations of parts that you use.
As for a weak link I should stress that for everyday use the stock engine
parts are more than adequate. If you are looking for a wider margin of
safety, or don't want to set points, or are significantly modifying the
bike then you will find some items to be great benefit

Topic: New here...
Message: I used to own an Enfield Bullet when I was back in India
doing college a couple of years ago. The sound and feel of the engine
was just so captivative and I miss it so much. Well, I woke up this morning
from a dream. I was kick-starting my bullet and it was so real that I
could almost taste it. Then, I just looked up this site and here I am.
Is it practical on the American roads here? Will it hold on the Freeways?
Of course, the one I owned in India was a 350 CC one. I believe that the
ones you get here are 500 CC. Any help would be appreciated.
Both 350's
and 500cc's are available in the US.
