Topic: If you see it you will buy it
Message:
I finally went to see what the Royals look like and was not disappointed. I'm going to the bank to get financing this week. I hope to be an owner by the end of this month. After a 250 mile trip to the dealer in Corinna Maine I was hooked on the bike. I'll be getting a 500 classic in green and I think my friend settled on the classic in black. Too bad the dealer 15 miles from my home is not on the ball as I would have purchased from them but they gave me the runaround so I went to the next nearest dealer and will get the bike from them. My hat is off to Jason at Corinna motors & sports for having bikes in stock. I'll keep you posted after I recieve the bike or maybe not as I plan to ride it often. Long live Royal Enfield!

Topic: 536 Conversion
Message:
Can a 535 converversion be performed on my Bullet 350? By the way, my Bullet is the best bike I have ever owned (recent purchase) I far value it's looks and ridng pleasure far above my previous Suzuki and Harley. The tan solo seat and Bullet gray color turn heads everywhere I go! Dallas,TX

The 535 converson cannot be performed on the 350, only on the 500

Topic: Front Disc Brake
Message:
I rode a 350 bullet in India & the front brake was worthless.
I've heard the front brake on the 500 is slightly better but not good.
My question, will the front wheel from one on the new Indian models which have a disc brake (Lightning I think) fit a 500 bullet?. Is this cable or hydraulic operated?.

As you know, Indian riders do not use the front brake under any cirucmstances. Why this is I don't know, so very little attention is paid to its adjustment etc by Indian dealers. The current front brake is adequate when set up and adjusted properly. The most recently manufactured bikes have a series of design changes which make them much more than adequate. I would try a bike whiuch has been set up by a US or European dealer.

Topic: Lights
Message:
has anyone wired the lights on a US model so they can draw off the battery when needed, while still running off the alternator during the day? I was thinking of a toggle switch, but I'm not sure of the proper wiring.

Topic: Upgrading a 350 Bullet
Message:
Other than a carb , sproket and header change, what engine modification can be done to my 350 Bullet? Can you put a high compression piston or cylinder change on this 350 and improve power? I have been told that the 350 cc doesn't do well with modifications but the 500cc does. I am hoping that is not true because I have the 350cc. By the way, It's the best bike I have ever had! Thanks form Texas.

The 350 does respond to improvements in breathing, compression, etc., just as any engine does. There are more "High performance" parts available for the 500 than the 350 because more are sold in the western world. You can still modify your head, find a suitable higher compression cylinder, install modified cams etc.

Topic: Those cute little pub lights
Message:
What is the real story behind the cute little "pub lights" either side of the Bullet's headlamp? When were they introduced and what was their purpose? They're certainly one of the distinctive features of the machine. I'd like to have real information to share with people who ask. Thank you. David in Fort Lauderdale

As we understand it, in Europe in the 50's bikes only had a "highbeam or road beam" and it was only used on the highway outside of town. We are told that when you got into townit was either the law or common courtesy to turn off the headlamp and to navigate with the two small "pilot" lights. Most other British bikes had one "pilot light" which was located inside the headlamp housing.

Topic: Royal Classic
Message:
I finally got my Royal and I am not disappointed! It's a blast to ride and the power is addictive. I do have a question about the shifter. Is there any way to tighten up the linkage as I do have problems with missed shifts? Another porblem is how do you overcome the urge to keep riding it? My wife will think she's a widow and I need to get the lawn mowed. The grin on my face when I get home after a ride could get me into trouble. Thank you Keven for bringing this classic machine to the states.

This old style "Albion"gear box was built to be strong ( as in stump pulling strong) and as a consequence does not allow rapid shifting. It shifts very deliberately. I would suggest that you release the shifter between shifts and then shift into third or whatever. Glad you love the bike!!!

Topic: New jets
Message:
I am modifying my 1999 Bullet 500, adding a K&N filter, short silencer and larger jets. Planning to install 125 main and 30 idle jet. Are these too large for an otherwise stock engine?

They may be too large. I ususally start with a 115 main and go from their. The only way to know for sure is to try it and then see how the plug looks and how it runs

Topic: Old Enfield
Message:
I have some time ago acquired an old Royal Enfield. It has now become a project I want to undertake. The engine # is G@\11678. I have some guesses that it is a 1950 350 bullet, but I would like to confirm. I would also like to find a manual for the bike, as assembly would be much simpler.
The bike has been in boxes for several years.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

What is the float level on a '95 500?
Do you check it with carb upside down, from the gasket to float top ( really bottom)?

Topic: carb re-jetting
Message:
In response to the question of June 17th
about rejetting the carb with a K&N filter and stock engine---I have the same set-up on my 2000 Bullet and the
30 pilot jet and 125 main jet work well
for me. Mine is set up with the carb
jets increased, the K&N air filter and the stock exhaust pipe with the British
BSA Goldstar muffler. Piston, head and
cylinder are stock. Top speed with the stock sprokets is now 75 MPH plus, and the engine is much more responsive in
all power ranges. The new Goldstar
muffler is no longer straight through,
but still gives an improvement in power,
sound, and looks. With this set up I believe the one making this inquiry would be happy with the jets he mentioned. I know I am! Even my dealer
is impressed with its appearance,
sound and performance compared to a stock model.

Dear Sir,
The Bullet ES, as the web site,www.enfieldmotorcycles.com. depicts, is an electric autostart model as I understood. I would like to know whether the bike is modiefied by the dealers or its made this way (auto-start) in the factory itself.
with warm regards,
Jay

The ES model comes from the factory already outfitted. It is not possible to retro-fit the electric starter to a kickstart only Enfield
