Topic: Exhaust Blow-by
Message: With only 95 easy break-in miles on my new 2002 Bullet 500
ES, I notice black residue on the exhaust pipe where it emerges from the
engine. Is this normal, or does it indicate a potentially serious problem?
What can be done to fix it? Thanks.
The problem
you refer to is quite minor. It is simply some carbon from the
exhaust gasses which have slipped past the joint of the head or exhaust
pipe.
There are three ways to deal with this.
1. Do nothing as it causes no harm (but it does look messy, I couldn't
stand
it myself)
2. Remove the pipe and using a common muffler or pipe expander, slightly
expand the exhaust pipe. Be very careful that you don't expand it too
much.
3. Remove the pipe and place a little high-temerature RTV or silicone
gasket
maker on it. Slip it bak into the head and wipe off the excess. this will
stop the leak and still allow you to remove the pipe at some time in the
future

Topic: Updated website?
Message: Hi, I'm planning on getting a Classic 500es most likely in
a month or two. I made a trek to a dealer in the next state (PA) as the
Maryland dealer was too far away, and was totally blown away that I could
own a new "old" bike! My question really though is: When is
the web site going to be updated to reflect changes? I saw a silver model
that I didn't know existed. I read posts about a "clubman" model,
but have no idea what it is. Alot of questions could also be answered
with a FAQ (ie California import problems, or Customs issues). I'm personlly
most interested in the side car! The "bikes" main page has a
photo of a nice blue one, but no other information other than "available".
I'd asked the dealer about it, he mentioned that they retail for about
$2500 and were black, but other than that nothing else. Thanks
Thanks
for the ideas!!

Message: Does the Bullet leak oil?
Sadly, they
don't leak oil anymore!! In the late 99 and early 2000 the
factory was retooled which added more modern maching equipment. Due to
the
new precision available with these new machines and a detailed analysis
of
where the bike could leak, they have eliminated the traditional British
oil
leakage.

Topic: Seat Height
Message: I would like to use the classic solo seat. I note that the
technical specs specify a seat height of 30".... I would like to
get that down to about 28".. Is this possible with the Bullet ?
There are
may ways to lower the seat height of the Bullet.
1. First when you install the solo seat, depending upon how you mount
it and
what size springs you use you can lower the bike.
2. You can install lower shocks. This is good for 3/4-1 inch in height
reduction
3. We offer some low profile tyres which will lower the bike about 1 inch.

Topic: No Spark
Message: Hi,
My Bullet lost power to the headlight and to the ignition. Nothing seems
to have come loose...wires etc. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Joe
Either you
have a dead battery, a blown fuse, or something did come loose. I
would start with the ground wires bend the battery. If that's not it then
get
a copy of the correct wiring diagram and start methodically tracing those
circuits with a volt meter or a test lamp. REMEMBER trying to trace an
electrical problem with our a wiring diagram and a test lamp is a sure
route
to madness!!

Message: Well my RE Classic Bullet arrived, finally, two weeks ago...(British
Racing Green with tan solo Saddle..& I put two small leather Saddle
Bags with chrome studs on either side..(The first weekend, the weather
was beautiful and I put about 60 miles on it, just buzzin' around my small
hometown...Man! you would'nt believe the "looks" I got!!!!...One
guy even stood in the middle of the road in this residentail neighborhood
and waved me down as I circled back around the culdesac...He asked me
for info on where to buy one, so I dropped by his house later that eve
with my brochures & dealer info.....I have another buddy who left
my house motivated to go convince his wife he "had" to buy one....That
first day of riding,I could have sworn that there were a bunch of young
girls wolf-whistling at me, but that could be my head doing tricks on
me.....Anyway, I'm thrilled with this bike...So glad I did'nt buy a run-of-the-mill
Japanese bike.....

parts inquiries: I own an Indian Fire Arrow motorcycle made by Elnfield

did in 1954,1955,1956,1957.

Topic: spark plug
Message: I've got a new 500 ES. The standard plug recommended is I
believe an NGK BR8ES according to the handbook. Although it's ES, I usually
like to use the kick, just for fun, which most of the time works okay,
though sometimes it refuses to fire.
Would it make any difference to easier starting etc. if an equivalent
but more expensive type of plug was used instead, such as the NGK EVX
or the Splitfire etc. or are these just a waste of money on Bullets? The
makers claim all sorts of benefits from these higher priced plugs but
I am a little dubious. Anybody tried them and noticed any difference?
Steve
I think the more expensive new and improved plugs
are really just "NEW," the
best change you can make is to gap the stock plug to .020 it really makes
a
difference in starting. Also be sure that you follow the instructions
found
on this website about the starting procedure

Yes it can be installed, but you will need the
