Topic: road trips
Message: Hello there...This is my first time so I'm going to
apologize up front if I'm bringing up a topic already discused. I'm considering
buying a Bullet 500 but I'm worried about the top speed of the bike being
only 75 mph. If I decided to buy the bike what would I need to improve
the performance of the bike and would it cost alot? I'm asking because
I would like to, at times take long road trips. It seems that running
the bike at 60 to 70 mph at long distances would be harmful. any feedback
would be great. Thanks--Cory
c.t.hixson@erols.com
While the top speed of the 500cc
is indeed 70-75mph, you are correct in your assumption that it would not
be happy in that speed range for long trips. The Enfields likes to cruise
at 55-60mph. It is not intended for expended freeway use, but rather for
secondary roads where you can enjoy both the bike and the scenery.

Topic: 03/03 American Motorcyclist
Message: Okay to all of you that are considering a Bullet and
wondering about if would fit your life I recommend that you get a copy
of the March 2003 addition of “American Motorcyclist”
the magazine of the American Motorcyclist Association. Get it form a friend
that is a member or heck just join the AMA and beg for this issue. It
has a great article about riding a Bullet a long distance in the US. The
bike pictured in the article has some mods like the seat and exhaust muffler.
No internal mods are mentioned. Note the supplies he brings and the daily
maintenance. Also note the comments about the bike performance and speed.
If you think you could handle it then get that Bullet…NOW!!!!
I have a 2002 500ES classic, green. I currently have only 1045 miles on
it. I plan on leaving it stock except for the oil pump up grade, solo
seat (the old timey one) and maybe electronic ignition. And remember you
are very likely going to have to re-jet the carb. to get the !
bullet to run right.
