Topic: Bullet shifting
Message: Nice letter Andy. I don't have any problems shifting
to neutral. I did, but adjusting the clutch just right seemed to do the
trick. I have to keep after it cause of clutch breaking in . It is holding
extra power with shorty muffler and rejet quite good. It did slip some
but again, adjusting it did good. I think I am too old and ride another
bike too, to change shifting to right. Sure would like to though. How
you doing on the brakes. Dave G, Muskegon Mi.....

Topic: Stainless steel nuts and bolts
Message: Hi
I own a late 70s model Bullet 350 and am in the process of changing the
nuts and bolts and studs of the machine into stainless steel. Is there
anyone who has done this before me who would like to share his experience
with me. I just managed to change most of the nuts and bolts and studs
on the chasis and was wondering if it would be prudent to carry the process
forward to the engine and other parts.
Please write me a mail if you are willing to share your knowledge in this
field or want to know what I am doing.

you put together the clubman or Cafe' kits? How was the project? Any recommendations?

Topic: How sweet is it?
Message: I have heard much of the loyalty and praise for the
Enfields (and they do kook "the classic" indeed), but what are
the truely endearing characteristics? I've rideen a '44 BSA 500 single,
65 Triumph 650, '69Kawasaki 500, '72 Kawqasaki 750, '56 BMW 500 asa my
regular rides growing up and some. While I have enjoyed them all, each
had their own special faults and attractions.I haven't been riding for
a while, and am looking around at bikes. The MotoGuzzi 750, and the Royal
Enfield 500 I find of interest, Any insight would be most appreciated.

Topic: Break-in Procedure
Message: I've recently bought the 500 Deluxe and I've heard that
breaking the bike in more aggressively than what is recommended enables
the engine to perform better later on. Is there any truth to this or should
I follow standard break-in procedure on my new bike?
I have heard this same myth for
over 30 years. It is COMPLETE hogwash and just simply isn't true. The
manufacturer suggests a break-in procedure for many scientific reasons.
Stick to it. The only advantage to not following the factories recommendations
is to your mechanic who will get more work from you.

Topic: misplaced 500cc skepticism?
Message: getting ready to order my very own, but would like to
get set straight before i decide between the 350 and the 500.
i am instinctively a little skeptical of a 350 that has been bored out
to a 500--as in: can that really be a good thing?
an indian friend of mine has told me that in india the 500s do not have
the same reputation for long term reliability that the 350s do--that a
350 will run forever, and a 500 may or may not. davecole@openarts.org
Actually the 500cc is not a bored
out 350. The engine cases, crankshaft, cylinder, piston, head, etc., are
all different. In India the 350 is almost exclusively what it sold. 500s
are relatively rare. Because of this the 500 is not as well known as the
350. I can assure you that a 500 driven within it's comfort level (55-60
cruise) is as reliable as a 350.
