Topic: importing from india
Message: Can anyone point me in right direction as to what bike
to buy in India. I want as classic as possible but must be easy to import
into UK. Is there a special UK spec requirement?
How to go about it.
Would I be better to buy an old bike and get it rebuilt for ease of import?
Appreciate yr advice. Cheers,

Topic: oily misinformation
Message: Kevin's heard it all regarding oils....but seems he
has difficulty in separating fact & fiction! The ONLY reason to specify
a multigrade for the RE is to operate in a wide range of climes...remember
cool, damp UK is #1 export market! The RE (ES) has wimpy starting gear
and just won't crank a cold engine with 50w! Sure, synthetics offer longer
oil change intervals and superior lubricity that an RE owner will NEVER
experience....but once you reach operating temps, the oil acts as a straight-weight
anyway. Synthetic multi-grade oil in your 70s Triumph ?? Mostly ignorance
I suppose, but largely a harmless waste of money. Another suggests 10w-40
Spectro? Why? Truly, conventional 20w-50 is fine, assuming you change
the filter & oil often to reduce the sludge caused by it's viscosity
index improvers. Straight 50w offers more factual advantages to plain
bearing engines of this type. Follow warranty instructions but listen
to the "old guys"!

Topic: classic exhaust system
Message: I own a 2003 bullet es 500 and would
like to install your classic exhaust system. What size carb.jets do you
recomend? The bike is stock.
Typically at sea level I like
to use a 115 main and a stock pilot. Others may use bigger jets, but this
has always worked for me.

Topic: Rebirth of the Interceptor?
Message: I have read of the plans to introduce an 800cc twin,
somewhat along the lines of the Interceptor, maybe in a couple of years.
This has been from articles in a British motorcycle magazine (Classic
Bike). I have heard nothing about this from American sources. Also, the
British are advertising a new Bullet with a designed left hand shift 5-speed
transmission, rather than the Mickey-Moused connecting linkage they currently
sell here for the standard 4-speed. Has anyone heard anything more about
this? I would be extremely interested in a twin along the same lines as
the Bullet. I have a 2000 Classic, and my brother has a 1999 Classic.
We have put over 12,000 miles on in the past three years, and enjoy the
bikes immensely. However, I would like a bit larger physical size to the
bike, and more power. The magic I'll keep right where it is, thank you
very much. I did convert to an 18-tooth countershaft sprocket which, although
it reguired some filing and fiddling w!
ith the aforementioned gearshift linkage so it didn't hit the larger sprocket,
has been well worth it, adding about 10 mph to each gear. I now can keep
in the power band in third in the twisties, wind it out to 60 (without
over-reving) before shifting to 4th, and mostly avoid that infamous flat
spot at the bottom end of 4th. Other than going to the Goldstar silencer
and porting the head, the powertrain is stock. My brother's bike (by virtue
of separating the top of his piston during an unplanned overheat) has
been totally rebuilt and blueprinted to a 535 cc, with Amal 30 carb, stainless
valves, and the Goldie exhaust. He clearly has more horsepower, but I
don't think the difference between his bike and mine is worth the $2000
cost. We both cruise at 65-70 indicated (I haven't checked, but I think
the speedometers are reading at least 5 mph fast at cruise). I really
enjoy this bike, but one does need to be able to divorce the ego, since
even a modern 250cc will blow you!
off. I an almost 50 years old, had been away from bikes for 23 years before
my brother (what else are they for but to keep us straight?) turned me
on to the Bullet. I was expecting some stanped out, cheap piece of tin
like a 1965 Honda Dream, but fell in love at first sight. So, I bought
a couple. I am VERY interested in the potential for a true roadster twin
(I'm an old Norton rider from the 70's). If anyone has any information
an that, I would be grateful. By the way, I live in Salem, Oregon, and
if any Bullet riders out there are halfway local and want to ride, email
me and let me know. Hell, you can even ride a Harley, if you're a real
rider and not a poser.
