Topic: bombay to london.........
Message: hi guys...its my second message on this site...but the first one didnt get posted for whatever reasons. Anyways, many thanks to Classic motorworks for the prompt reply that i received from them regarding my queries about the new 65.
One another note...in the mid nineties, someone did a road trip from bombay ( now mumbai ) in India to london on an Royal Enfield Bullet standard 350. His memoirs were published in an auto magazine in India ( Car& Bike international....i guess but i aint sure ) He rode all the way across west asia sort of tracing the ancient silk route across india, pakistan, afganistan, iran, turkey, all across continental europe on his enfield 350 bullet. He did suffer a few failures, but none major, and I do remember this distinctly, just tyre punctures and a replacement of the clutch, i think. The photographs in that article were pretty nice, though the quality wasnt that good. One of the things that stuck me was that the engine of his bike stood up to all that it was put through, throughout that 20,000 mile journey (approx) and he it seems even got a good price for it when he sold the bike and his spares in the UK.
Am trying to get this stuff online but havent been able to find it( the magazine didnt have an online site then )
I am sure that it would make interesting reading for all the bullet fans.....this message was prompted by someone asking if the enfield is upto long distance touring ( to the west coast)....yes it definitely is.
I myself have done a lot of long trips on my RE 350 when I was in India, touring both north and south including the Himalayas. Funny thing is, it did very well on those tours ( anything above a 50-55mph in India is suicidal ). The only problems I ever had were in the city and mainly with the clutch slipping.....
the bike....its good......its charming and its a joy to own ......
saving up money now ( full time student u see ) to get a 65

Topic: Center Stand with sidecar mounted
Message: Hi,  Anyone know if the center stand can be mounted on a 2002 Bullet 500ES Classic with Cozy Rocket sidecar attached?  I currently don't have a center stand on mine and would like to add one.  Thanks.

This is a good question. We have installed many sidecars on bikes that have a sidestand on them so I can't see why it wouldn't fit.

Topic: Importing
Message: I am in Bangalore, India for a few weeks and have investigated purchasing a Bullet Classic 500. I want to enjoy it while I'm here and ship it back to Dallas, Texas upon my return. I have all the information necessary to get it to Dallas, but am having difficulty getting legal/customs information (and fees) to actually recieve it through US customs. QUESTION: Can anybody give me information (or their exporting experience) on this?
"No-wheels" in India.

Please see the other sad stories on this message board from others who tried to import one into the US. It cannot be done legally regardless of what your dealer in India tells you

Topic: Buying in Canada
Message: Hi all:
I owned a 500 Delux before and am looking for a 500 or 350 in Canada,  even a worn out one! ALso I have a question? can the "sxty-five" gearbox be a retrofit on an earlier model?

Regards

Topic: Front Brake Drag tip
Message: Early model Bullets (prior to newer export models) had brakes that had a tendancy to drag when they got hot.  One of the reasons for this is that the Wear Pads on the actual brake shoes may not be at right angles to the brake shoe.  The early shoes were fairly roughly cast and the metal plates sometimes sat at a bit of an angle.  This had the effect of causing the shoe to wear sideways, the end resault is that when the brake is disengaged, the shoes still touched the drum.  All is not lost however, a quick touch up on a linishing disk set at 90deg will fix the problem and with a little bit of bedding in the things will be as good as new.
The newer enfields are fitted with a non aspestos shoe that is of much better quality and does not appear to have this problem.
