Topic: The Enfield is a legend on Indian Roads
Message: The US has the Harley. India has the Enfield. I have always been a keen admirer of both vehicles. The Harley has this ultimate cruiser for the ultimate rider image. The Enfield kinda enjoys the same (in a way) in India. I've always wanted to own an Enfield as a HD is way outta my budget. But I cannot afford a brand new Enfield either. Any idea where I can buy a not-so-used Enfield? And yeah, which is the best model to buy? I understand the bullet is a classic, but are the other models available in India? I just want to ride on.

Topic: Touring Florida
Message: I have recently finished a fairly long ride in Florida on my 2003 500 ES. I left Tampa and headed east to Cape Canaveral and then North to Jacksonville before heading home to Tampa via Gainesville. All told, I logged almost 1,000 miles on my bike during the time and had no problems. Even in our warm weather I was able to hold 50-55 mph for the trip. I have made similar trips in the car on the interstate and had forgotten how nice the back roads and small towns are around Florida. It is a lot of fun to answer all of the questions from people about the Enfield, few believe that it is new and even the HD riders have to stop and talk. I feel comfortable now that I can go anywhere I want on it as long as I am willing to spend some time getting there. After the trip I fitted some padding over the springs on the old fashioned seat and it sure makes a difference on a two or three hour ride. One suggestion, if you are going to ride at night the larger headlight is a
serious improvement over the stock. I have the tri bar halogen and it is worth every penny!

Topic: Old versus New designs
Message: I've just swapped a Honda CB500 for an Enfield 500, Sixty-5.
Some might think I'm crazy, but I'm happy with the Enfield.
The Honda has a high percentage of plastic - the Enfield is all metal.
Honda parts are expensive - the Enfield is cheap. I just fitted a speedometer marked in mph instead of kph .. I fitted the whole unit easily myself and it cost only 70 dollars. A metal mudguard costs only 30 dollars.
Admittedly the Honda would cruise at 70mph whereas the Enfield is happier at 55mph.
The Honda needed 5000rpm to be working usefully .. the Enfield needs only half that.
Construction is pleasing, and the whole thing can be worked on at home if necessary. The Honda usually needs specialist attention.
I'm quite happy riding steadily through the countryside on the Enfield enjoying the throbbing engine which exhibits great torque going up hills.
For me that's where the pleasure lies .. not in speeding along at high revs with no time to enjoy the ride. I'm enjoying being a Bulleteer. - Graham

I just got back from the BMW "Top of the Rockies" rallye in
Paonia Colorado. I rode my 2003ES (535) from Phoenix to St.Johns
(You know the roads) to Zuni, NM., then up the old 666 highway along
the western border of Colorado to Cortez, through the mountains,
over the 10500' pass west of Teluride, then to Montrose, Delta and
finally Paonia. Time of the ride was 15 hours and the distance was
783 miles. I kept the speedo at 60mph (except over the pass) which
was actually 59mph by the GPS. The only adjustment at Colorado was
that the chain needed to be tightened. No oil consuption!
At the rallye, Saturday, I spoke to over 100 people who were
interested in the bike. Many had been considering but were unsure of dependability. My ride convinced some. I referred them to your website to check for dealers. By the way, my Bullet is the first to have made this rallye, although a German tourist on his Taurus beat me in by a couple of hours. He rode his diesel from Boston at 45mph and 10mph in the mountains. People were amused but nobody took the bike seriously.
Sunday, I returned to Phoenix by the same route, 783 miles at 60 to 65 mph. The bike never missed a beat, but I admit to listening to every beat along the way. I figure the ride was pretty risky as most of it was through high desert with little or no traffic. A breakdown would not have been good; having to work on Monday.
Anyway, home again after the 16 hour return. I hope my ride helped to convince others that the bike, once properly "sorted" will do the job. Norm Stradleigh Phoenix, customer 6995

Message: Considering purchasing A Royal Enfield; however I don't have a boatload of as much free time as I used to. Operated properly, what could I expect from this machine in regards to amount of miles between roitine maintenace? I've owned 2-strokers, & various pre-AMF H-D's. I do desire less wrenching compared to aforementioned machines. Thank You. p.s. I usally ride up to X-mas in Ohio jeff

Topic: Larger Rear Tire Possible?
Message: My 2004 Bullet 500ES has the Avon MkII 3.50x19 rear tire. I'd like to slow the engine RPM down a bit for highway riding. Anyone fitted a larger (perhaps 4.00x19) rear tire on their Bullet instead of changing the countershaft sprocket?

Topic: Manufacture Quality
Message: I would appreciate hearing from owners as to their impressions of manufacture quality of these bikes. I am considering a purchase and could use some information. Is the quality of the steel used in manufacture up to your standards:i.e. do parts break and fall off at a rate faster than the British built orignal? Are the manufacture tolerances acceptable; i.e. do the parts fit together in a reasonable way? Do you find your bike consumes oil at an alarming rate? Do the front forks hold the road at speed? Any other observations will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any comments.

I feel compelled to add that the materials used in the bike are superior to the originals if for no other reason than the passage of time. Most of the bike is made now on modern CNC equipment which produced accuracy unheard of in the 50's.
