Get-Togethers to Mark on Your Calendar! |
Message:
Plan on attending one of our great events
this summer. We are planning two Royal Enfield
family reunions and we will be having an
open house/summer picnic here at headquarters
in Minnesota.
Here is our current list of events
in chronological order:
June 23-25 Royal Enfield Summer Picnic and
Open House We want to show off our new facility
and give us a chance to meet more of our
customers. The picnic will be held in our
home town of Faribault Minnesota and will
include tours, a great ride in the Mississppi
river country, technical information, contests,
food and great discounts on our parts and
accessories including free freight for anything
you decide that you can't live without.
The tentative schedule is: Arrive Friday
June 23, Ride, contests, tours, tech sessions
etc Saturday June 24, and home on Sunday
June 25. There is no fee for the event,
food on Friday and Saturday evenings will
be provided. Lots of lodging/camping is
available in the area. Give us a call at
800-201-7472 for more information. All bikes
and brands are welcome.
Reno Royal Enfield Family Reunion Held on
Labor Day weekend in Reno Nevada. Some unbelievably
beautiful rides in the Reno/Lake Tahoe area
are planned as well as food, fellowship
and fun. This has been a very popular event
in the past. Pre-registration is required.
Call Guy at: (775) 673-9611 to register
and for more information. You can see a
wonderful slideshowfrom last years reunions
here.

Note: Tait from our
office has gone to this event since its
inception and
has had so much fun that he has permanent
"dibs" on it.
The "Original"
Royal Enfield Family Reunion/RALLY ON THE
RIVER 2006 The Midwest Royal Enfield Family
Reunion will be held in September AGAIN
this year. Back by popular demand the rally
will be held the last weekend in September
(9-29, 30 & 10-1, 2006). The location
will be the same as always Green's Campground
and Canoe rental in Steelville, MO. We will
once again be joined by the Moto Guzzi National
Owners Club and the combined event is now
being called the RALLY ON THE RIVER 2006
to eliminate some of the confusion caused
by more than one event called the Family
Reunion. Here is a link to somepictures
of last years rally. More details to
follow and watch for info at www.interstatemotorcycles.com
email: bdunkus@fidnet.co.
Note: I have gone
to all of these events in Steelville and
it is well worth
the trip. The riding is beautiful and
Bill and Mary from Interstate and Skip
and his family from Greens are the consumate
hosts!

Topic: Electra
Message: I love my Electra. In
two months I've put 2,000+ commuting miles on
it, and my initial evaluation is that it is just
about as reliable as the Honda 750 CB3 I used
to have.

Topic: You won't just get a motorcycle!
Message: You won't just get a
motorcycle! a quaint little saying, but none the
less true. Since my last post I have received
an overwelming flood of e-mails
asking about my trip/travels and my bike. I had
no idea one little post could
get such a Big response. Wanted to say "Thanks
Everyone" and hope I have been
some help. And to also tell all those out there
wondering,wishing and dreaming
about the bikes, that "You won't just get
a motorcycle, you get a whole lot more!"
Those of you that have a Royal Enfield, know what
I'm talking about. Happy Motoring Everyone!!!

Topic: New Enfield
Message: I purchased a new Enfield
from a local dealer about 2 years ago. I feel
he didn't have a huge wealth of knowledge on them,
and I think it would have helped a lot. For one,
my choke, being brand new I guess, stuck open
slightly all the way home. About 50 miles. The
next day (ALL day), would not start. I didn't
have the insight at the time to check the plug
and realize the problem so I was a really frustrated
to say the least. So my advice, try to get as
much info as possible right up front. Starting
procedure is key (kickstarting that is) as well
as what to expect as far as little quirks that
come up. The message board is a good resource.
Also, buy the Pete Snidal manual. This is like
the Bullet bible. You might even get it before
you buy the bike. It comes on CD and is in html
format. Most of the stuff yo have to do on the
Bullet you can do yourself. Just go by the book
and take it easy for about 800 to 1000 miles.
And expect some little annoying things to pop
up from time to time until it's run in. I have
just about 3000 miles on mine and it is definitely
a unique experience owning it.

Topic: Distance riding
Message: I am considering an
Enfield (perhaps a sixty-five?), but to make it
economical, I have to be able to make my commute
on it. Most of my driving is around town, but
twice a week I commute 100 miles each way at highway
speeds (70 mph). Is there an Enfield that will
tolerate this? Will this cause me maintinance
problems? Will it reliably do 70 for an hour and
a half 4 times a week or would this be abusing
it?

Topic: Speed
Message: For the makers &
the engineers of the very well built Royal Enfield,I
put forth this question? It would appear that
a vast majority of royal enfield fans and thier
riders as well would love to see a new royal enfield
built with the same classic styling BUT! With
a new powerfull motor that would enable inparticular
riders in the united states to achieve speeds
above 70 mph . Most european & Japanase bikes
are capale of doing way over 100 plus miles per
hour.If you are looking to gain a leap in market
share then listen to the loyal buyers of the royal
enfield and maby even hear thier opions and give
them all what they want! More speed but the same
classic styling.

Topic: Oil System
Message: Where is the return
for the oil that is in the timing case? I have
an 06 Bullet and I was wondering what the function
of the cannister that sits behind the battery
is. Is this a crankcase breather or is it part
of the oil circulation path?
Thanks for your time.

Topic: Oil useage and debugging!
Message: I think I have it! It
took 2200 miles but it's, "all good now"
I have a '04 bullet with the vintage kit, K&N
filter, shorty exhaust. I'm a constant tinker,
"it running good, but if we....." I've
found it'll do 70 MPH, it doesn't like it, but
to merge onto a highway I can do it. When I push
it, (45 miles at 60 mph), it'll use a little oil.
I tired synenthic oil(20-40), mineral oil (20-50),
no difference. I did notice weeping out the seals
with the syn. oil, so I stopped using that.I jetted
the carb it until it was loading up and back it
off, (I aslo used a laser temp sensor on the exhaust
pipe, real hot-lean, cool-rich. My pipe is a nice
honey brown, plug perfect. Only complaint, the
needle is in the highest, (richest) position.
Next time I have to call SUDCO, (my carb parts
source, they have a web site and a 800#), I'll
order the next richest.Me thinks with ethonol
in the gas getting more, (more oxygen), I may
need a richer setting, also colder days. It gets
regular oil changes, (500 miles), I race off road
bikes and they get changed a lot, so it does).
I blue locktited most bolts, check it over when
I polish it, been a while since I noticed anything
loose/missing. :) I have found like my ATK off
road bikes, theses don't like to be modified by
non-standard means. stock is best, ride it and
smile! It took me a year of swapping this and
that to see the if it'd run better, to come to
that conclusion. I was going to get the highter
compression piston, almn. cylinder, but why, (I
did get the oil pump). When it need a re-build,
I might try them. The clutch drags, face it! I
had thought of ordering in all the clutch parts
availabel, but I got it down to a science now,
when I almost come to a stop, I just flick it
into netral, I can find neutral from second, (not
first) at a stop. It's what it is, you can go
cross country with it,(if you wanted to) it's
not a Gold Wing, but it is realiable. It has it
quirks, once ironed out, it 's a happy machine.
I bought as Kawi 800 for longer distances, run
my Enield dailey to work and short, (under 75miles)
trips. It get @60-75 mpg, many days with a passenger
hanging off the tiny pillon seat. It keeps asking
me to put the vintage trials kit on it! Maybe
this winter?? Is it a "everything bike"?
Naaaa, no bike is. Is it something different,
you bet. Is it realible, yep, after the bugs are
gone. Are they alot? Naaaa, loose bolts etc.,
many of mine were self induced. My advice, buy
one, go over all the bolts. change the oil reg,
and most important, LEAVE IT ALONE, IT'S HAPPY
HOW IT IS!!!!

Topic: Open House
Message: Well just got back from
the Classic Motor Works OPen House. Had Great
Time. Meeting everyone, the Ride to and from the
Antique Motorcycle Show/Swap Meet was definately
an experience I will remember. Met alot of great
people during the event and hope to see everyone
next year. For those of you wondering how well
a Royal Enfield will hold up? Try this on for
size. I rode a total of 1947 miles to, during
and from this Great Event and had ZERO problems.
That's from Oklahoma City.OK to Faribault and
then some riding around the various towns and
locations. All on less than $100.00 gas money,(round
trip @ 65 to 70 MPH). So, for those of you having
doubts of how well a Royal Enfield will fit your
needs, the answer is no ned to worry. Want to
give a special thanks to the great folks at Classic
Motorworks for the great time I had. Can't wait
'till next year. See you then.
P.S. Don't forget that extra clutch cable and
tools next time guys. It could be a very wet experience.
