: Summer RE
Get-Togethers to Mark on Your Calendar! |
Message:
Plan on attending one of our great events
this summer. We are planning two Royal Enfield
family reunions and we will be having an
open house/summer picnic here at headquarters
in Minnesota.
Here is our current list of events
in chronological order:
June 23-25 Royal Enfield Summer Picnic and
Open House We want to show off our new facility
and give us a chance to meet more of our
customers. The picnic will be held in our
home town of Faribault Minnesota and will
include tours, a great ride in the Mississippi
river country, technical information, contests,
food and great discounts on our parts and
accessories including free freight for anything
you decide that you can't live without.
The tentative schedule is: Arrive Friday
June 23, Ride, contests, tours, tech sessions
etc Saturday June 24, and home on Sunday
June 25. There is no fee for the event,
food on Friday and Saturday evenings will
be provided. Lots of lodging/camping is
available in the area. Give us a call at
800-201-7472 for more information. All bikes
and brands are welcome.
Reno Royal Enfield Family Reunion Held on
Labor Day weekend in Reno Nevada. Some unbelievably
beautiful rides in the Reno/Lake Tahoe area
are planned as well as food, fellowship
and fun. This has been a very popular event
in the past. Pre-registration is required.
Call Guy at: (775) 673-9611 to register
and for more information. You can see a
wonderful slideshow from last years reunions
here.

Note: Tait from our
office has gone to this event since its
inception and
has had so much fun that he has permanent
"dibs" on it.
The "Original"
Royal Enfield Family Reunion/RALLY ON THE
RIVER 2006 The Midwest Royal Enfield Family
Reunion will be held in September AGAIN
this year. Back by popular demand the rally
will be held the last weekend in September
(9-29, 30 & 10-1, 2006). The location
will be the same as always Green's Campground
and Canoe rental in Steelville, MO. We will
once again be joined by the Moto Guzzi National
Owners Club and the combined event is now
being called the RALLY ON THE RIVER 2006
to eliminate some of the confusion caused
by more than one event called the Family
Reunion. Here is a link to some pictures
of last years rally. More details to
follow and watch for info at www.interstatemotorcycles.com
email: bdunkus@fidnet.co.
Note: I have gone
to all of these events in Steelville and
it is well worth
the trip. The riding is beautiful and
Bill and Mary from Interstate and Skip
and his family from Greens are the consummate
hosts!

I have Bullet Standard 350cc, 1987 model.The mileage
I draw is 22km/litre and the pick-up power is
very poor.It simply dosen't seem to drag.
Re-boring is done once in the engine.
What should I do to increase mileage and power.Should
I replace the piston & valve?
Adivse would be highly appreciated.

Topic: High maintenance?
Message: I have a Yamaha V Star
Silverado and as I get older it seems to get heavier.
Am interested in a lighter bike and the Royal
Enfield may fill the bill. However, I have no
mechanical ability whatsoever so if it's going
to require constant fiddling, I'd better stick
with another Japanese make. I'd appreciate your
comments.

Topic: Jetting/Backfire issues
Message: I have recently added
a K&N filter and Indian classic System and
am in the process of rejetting. I think I have
a good pilot system (screw is 2.5 turns out) and
the main is equivalent to about 140 (plug reads
are actually a bit on the lean side)The (stock)
needle is raise dup as far as the e-clip will
allow. My problem is that in some instances I
get a bad onset of hesitation then backfire thru
the carb. This happens when hot, in about 4th
or 5th gear, lower rpms (cruising), somewhere
around 1/4 to 1/2 throttle.Especially coming down
from higher throttle. (I need more gas)Turning
the air screw back in 1/2 turn seemed to help,
but it's rich at idle. My question is what else
to try to remedy this. I am thinking shims to
raise the needle. Or is another needle in order.
I did slap a p-2 needle jet in, to find out that
it was mega rich. Also was wondering if float
bowl level should be increased? Carb gurus, and
experienced mechs please respond.

Topic: sputtering/exhaust leak
Message: Thanks for all the advice
guys, the exhaust leak on my 2004 bullet 500es
has been fixed by re-fitting the pipe into the
head with some high temp silicone, and the sputtering
in higher gears has been resolved by raising the
needle in the carb by one notch. The needle is
now set in the top position, and the bike seems
to be running much better. Thanks for all the
good advice and happy riding!

Topic: Need Enfield Bullet for
husband's birthday!
Message: Hi Enfield Bullet lovers:
My husband was born and raised in India and would
love nothing more than an Enfield Bullet for his
birthday. Obviously, it reminds him of his native
home. I would LOVE to surprise him with a motorcycle
for his birthday. I am looking specifically for
a Red & Black Royal Enfield Bullet Deluxe.
Does anybody have a used one that they would be
willing to sell for $3000 or less??? Please email
back if you are interested. I would be eternally
grateful to anybody who is able to help me fulfill
my husband's wish. Thank you!

Topic: 350 Carb leak
Message: Just bought a '99 350
with a very leaky carb (overflow hole at bottom.)
The engine also fizzles out sometimes. Is this
from the floats sticking? Is taking the carb fully
apart to clean the best option as I won't have
any manuals for weeks?

Topic: drag of a side car
Message: I got the chance to
buy a side hack at a good deal.
My '04 Bullet has the preformance pipe and air
filter on it, runs and cruises well, pulls all
the hills pretty good.
If I buy/install the side car, am I going to loose
ALOT of power???
This would be a good excuse to put on the new
cylinder, head, 8:1 piston in it!!!!
Anyone run a 500 hackless, then a side car set
up back to back???
Thanks!

Topic: Is 500 CC Enough to ride
in the free ways?
Message: Hi, I love Royal Enfield.
I rode this when used to live in India. Can any
of the US owners can tell whether this bike has
enough power to safely ride on the free ways?
(I am concerned about the 500 CC engine). Thanks
email: kspandian@hotmail.com
Reply:
The 500cc Bullet engine is meant for cruising
on secondary roads from 55-60mph. It will do
freeway speeds, but that is at wide-open throttle
and nothing can be run wide open forever. The
new Lean-burn engine is better suited for freeway
drivinig, but even it is not designed for constant
70-75mph criusing

Topic: Horse power ratings?
Message: Can someone explain
to me the difference in power ratings between
the ElectraX and the Deluxe. I see they are very
close but why are they different. I am interested
in the deluxe but want the best motor.
email: bikerlaw@netzero.net
Reply:
The Electra has a newer
design than the Bullet. While both engines have
a similar look they are quite different. The
Electra has an alloy cylinder for better cooling,
an improved oiling system, stronger bottom end
and a CV carburetor. The Electra engine requires
less maintenance than the Bullet engine.
