Topic: Continental Kit/Sportsman mod for the Electra?
Message: As you will be bringing the Electra to the states in April, will there be the kits to do Cafe Racer style additions?

(i.e. like the Continental (for the old engine) and the Electra Sportsman?)

Reply: At the moment there are not as many items for the Electra as there are for the conventional Bullet. Over time this will change. For the latest updates subscribe to our FREE newsletter. You can subscribe here: http://www.enfieldmotorcycles.com/subscribe.html

Topic: Royal Enfields into Canada
Message: I purchased a 1999 R.E. Deluxe out of Dallas and had it air-shipped to my son in Napa, CA. for eventual tranport up here (over the Canadian border)to Calgary, Alberta.

Unfortunately it turns out that these bikes aren't on the "approved list" (the Trucker's words)for legal import into Canada. I believe that my 500 model was made in Madras, India...also a "Commonwealth Country".

Can anyone tell me why my Bullet ain't approved? And better yet, what can I do to get it up here?

Thanks and regards,

Eric Dahlberg
Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Reply: This message board is full of questions like this. Simply put each country has its won rules and regulations. Bike which are legally imported into different countries are different. It is virtually impossible to beat the rules. PLEASE check with your local authorities before wasting your money like this. We get TONS of calls from people who do not check first and then end up with their bikes being impounded for good by Customs. When it comes to motor vehicles each country is different. In the case of Canada because of the size of the market Royal Enfield has not applied for approval. There is botching you can do and there are no legal loopholes. The same is true of trying to bring one from India directly into the US

Topic: Crankcase Breather Overflow Problem
Message: The crankcase breather on my 2002 bullet ES seems to be producing a very large quantity of oil. I started the bike today for about 5 minutes, after it had set for approximately 2 months; it produced about a half-pint to a pint of oil which ran out the bottom of the air filter. I emptied the EPA oil reservoir which is fitted next to the battery last year before I put it away for the winter. It seems to have too much crankcase pressure. The motor oil level was correct according to the dip stick before I started the bike. Why is so much oil being forced from the crankcase up the breather tube and out the air filter?

Message: Looking for a good condition 350 bullet for export to my brother (as a surprise birthday present) in Australia. Must be in really good condition and less than 20,000Rs and ideally located in Goa since I have people who can come and see it. However, any location will be considered for a good example. I am located in London, UK. Any pointers gratefully received. Please email me on "doctorbrown (atsign) email.com" [anti-spam version of email address necessary, sorry]

Topic: Synthetic oil problem?
Message: My new 2005 Bullet (1500 miles) had a problem with an oil leak of some kind recently. It had never leaked a drop, when I parked it one day and noticed a lot of oil under the bike and all over the bottom of the engine. Nothing showed on the dip stick. Dealer closed, I decided to ride (slowly) about a mile home. It made it ok & I put a half qt. of regular oil in it to get to the dealer next day. He couldn't find anything wrong. I don't get on it riding too much - usually not much over 45mph. Replaced the synthetic oil and haven't seen a drop leak since. What might have caused this?
email: danie1@everestkc.net

Reply: Sometimes Synthetic oil can find ways to escape from an engine that regular oil can't

Topic: Diesel
Message: Since bio-diesel is seen as a solution to enviromental problems, and RE makes a diesel version for sale in India why not import it? It seems it would have a "natural" market, especially in the midwest.

Topic: Enfields in Central Illinois
Message: I really like these bikes. However, there are no dealers anywhere near me. Does anybody in the Springfield, IL area have a clean used one they want to sell(maybe a unclean one too...;-) )? Also, any owners near here who would share their experiences with me would be appreciated. Thanks.

p.s. Enfield guys: I notice that your dealer network is growing, and that's good. Hopefully you'll get a presence in my area soon. Come to some of the bike shows and/or the Springfield Mile. I think you'll find a good number of interested bikers.

Topic: VINs
Message: Hi all,
I was wondering how I could trace the history of my bullet using my VIN. Is there a resource I could use for this?
I have 3 old ones (60's and 70's) and am interested in knowing more about what the numbers/letters on the VIN mean.
Any help would be appreciated.

Topic: Neutral Finder on 5 Speed
Message: Hi,
In the works of getting a 500cc Military. I know it has the new 5 speed. I have been pouring over pictures. I have seen Some 5 speeds with the Neutral finder and Some without. Anyone know what's up with this? Does anyone know if there is a place to get one aftermarket? I know I can install one this winter if can get one.
Anything you can offer is good.
Thanks,
Wizid
email: greenman_jack023@hotmail.com

Reply: None of the 5-Speeds have a neutral finder, it is not part of that design. They are ONLY found on the older (pre-2004) 4-speed models

Topic: Classics
Message: I come from a long line of Harley riders. My first was a new '72 FX.
I saw this ad and had to respond. Growing up in a very small town in ND, my jaw dropped when I saw (and heard!) a neighbors visitor's Royal Enfield chug down the street. It was beautiful. As I said, I am HD by birth, but I so appreciate the British bikes, Triumph Bonnie goes with out saying, but the Enfield still has a big place in my heart. (Now electrics are improved as well as carbs I hope!!) Anyway, I am now in my 50's, yeah, I know...Had to retire from my career as aircraft mech due to on job injury, and now wonder about the Enfield Trike possibilities.
Can you send me some info on products available?
Thank you...

Topic: transmission update
Message: When did the RE discontinue the gear lever adapter? Is it now a true LH shift? The old adapter turned me off but now I'm interested. Also, will the compression on 500cc bikes be raised? pls reply, thx
email: dad41dad@yahoo.com

Reply: The transmission changed form a 4-speed to a 5-speed in 2004. The 5-speed is a true left hand shift unit. There are not plans to raise the compression of the conventional Bullet engine. It has worked well like this for over 50 years and there is not compelling reason to change. The new Electra engine which is an entirely new engine and will be installed on the Electra X which will be introduced in April will have a somewhat higher compression ratio.

Topic: dealer prep.
Message: Assuming its ok with my dealer, can I order a RE and take delervery of the crate. (no dealer prep)I realize this would void the warrentee, but that is not a problem.

Reply: It is against the terms of our agreement with our dealers for them to deliver a bike in a crate. We believe that a customer should only get a bike that has been properly assembled and repaired. A dealer may lose his or her relationship with us for doing this.

Topic: new bike assembly charge
Message: Do all dealers charge $275 or so to assemble the bike? Mine does. If so, the actual cost is more like 5k.
email: ackley_steve@hotmail.com

Reply: Most dealer charge extra for vehicle preparation and the destination charge. These are very real costs to the dealer. For example a top notch assembly and preparation can take up to 8 hours. If you Multiply this times the dealers shop rate you can see that $275 is reasonable. Destination charges are also real. Each dealer pays the cost of truck shipping from the motorcycle warehouse which is near Norfolk VA. Shipping can be an expensive item especially given the costs today with high oil prices.

Topic: Electra - Performance Parts
Message: I noticed the message re: US availability of the Electra in April. Anybody know if the performance parts offered for the Bullet (primarily the 535 kit) be compatible with the new "lean burn" engine? Thanks for the info.
email: bozarthjd@hotmail.com

Reply: The Electra engine is an entirely different engine than the conventional Bullet engine. Because of that virtually none of the Bullet performance parts form the Bullet will fit the Electra. We have developed quite a few new performance parts already and more will be coming. Watch our newsletter (you can subscribe here http://www.royalenfieldusa.com/information.php?info_id=12

Topic: Clutch Slipping
Message: I'm restoring a '47 "J' model, & I'm having some trouble with the clutch slipping when kick starting, the springs & plates seem O.K. but it still slips every now & again, is this common, it seems to have huge compression which puts alot of preasure on the clutch. When using the compression lever its better but thought I'd check if this is common before I go & replace the springs which are near imposible to get in Aus.
