Message:
Plan on attending one of our great events this summer. We are planning
two Royal Enfield family reunions and we will be having an open
house/summer picnic here at headquarters in Minnesota.
Here is our current list of events in chronological order:
June 23-25 Royal Enfield Summer Picnic and Open House We want to
show off our new facility and give us a chance to meet more of our
customers. The picnic will be held in our home town of Faribault
Minnesota and will include tours, a great ride in the Mississppi
river country, technical information, contests, food and great discounts
on our parts and accessories including free freight for anything
you decide that you can't live without. The tentative schedule is:
Arrive Friday June 23, Ride, contests, tours, tech sessions etc
Saturday June 24, and home on Sunday June 25. There is no fee for
the event, food on Friday and Saturday evenings will be provided.
Lots of lodging/camping is available in the area. Give us a call
at 800-201-7472 for more information. All bikes and brands are welcome.
Reno Royal Enfield Family Reunion Held on Labor Day weekend in Reno
Nevada. Some unbelievably beautiful rides in the Reno/Lake Tahoe
area are planned as well as food, fellowship and fun. This has been
a very popular event in the past. Pre-registration is required.
Call Guy at: (775) 673-9611 to register and for more information.
You can see a wonderful slideshowfrom last years reunions here.

Note: Tait from our office has gone to this
event since its inception and
has had so much fun that he has permanent "dibs" on
it.
The "Original" Royal Enfield Family Reunion/RALLY
ON THE RIVER 2006 The Midwest Royal Enfield Family Reunion will
be held in September AGAIN this year. Back by popular demand the
rally will be held the last weekend in September (9-29, 30 &
10-1, 2006). The location will be the same as always Green's Campground
and Canoe rental in Steelville, MO. We will once again be joined
by the Moto Guzzi National
Owners Club and the combined event is now being called the RALLY
ON THE RIVER 2006 to eliminate some of the confusion caused by more
than one event called the Family Reunion. Here is a link to somepictures
of last years rally. More details to
follow and watch for info at www.interstatemotorcycles.com
email: bdunkus@fidnet.co.
Note: I have gone to all of these events in
Steelville and it is well worth
the trip. The riding is beautiful and Bill and Mary from Interstate
and Skip and his family from Greens are the consumate hosts!

Topic: Re: front brakes
Message: i took the wheel apart again and actually filed
down the new pads so that the wheel would turn. tried everything i could
for a couple of hours but could not get the cable to 'stretch' enough.
ended up snapping the bracket which holds the mirror and guides the cable
into the hand lever! its ok, i have another. BUT, what in the world to
do???
i have adjusted the link rod and the cable adjuster on the front fork
every which way...even loose.
are there 2 different lengths of front brake cables??
any ideas will be tried and appreciated immediately!!

Topic: Collect RE info
Message: I think owners/this board needs a place or a
central collection place for tip/info.
Being a constant tinkers on my bikes, I'm always looking for ideas to
make it better.
What I propose is send me all the tips/knowlwge we riders have discovered/do
to keep our bikes tooling down the road.
If it's cool, Email me your tips, advice and if you ahve a problem, maybve
I can help solve it.
Could just be jetting, oil that seems to work, not work, waxes, anything.
Thanks

Topic: Riding the bullet
Message: Hello Classic Motorworks:
This is the second season I've enjoyed riding my 2004 bullet 65. It was
broken in properly and is happiest at about 50 to 60 mph on secondary
roads.
I've had the maintenance done at the prescribed intervals and I find
the bike is a BLAST to ride. I get lots of looks and comments like "did
you restore that yourself."
Most look at it longingly and I can sense their desire to get back to
the old days of riding in times when crowding and agressive driving was
not the norm.
I enjoy riding my bullet 65. 3,500 miles on the clock so far. Of course
I don't ride on the interstates but have a blast riding 2 lane secondaries.
The sweet spot for the bike is 45 to 55 and that is the speed limit on
most of these roads. Unlike interstates, vision around corners and over
hills require sanity while riding. I meet lots of other riders with all
kinds of bikes on these roads so 70 mph interstate driving is not necessary
for having a good time on the bike and this is supported by lots of others
riding Hardleys and Rice Rockets. Who says you have to ride the superslab
to get anywhere and have fun? ? ?

Topic:
Message: Questions, questions! Perhaps someone out there
has some information to share.
I see that the Bosch blue coil is listed in the catalogue. Is this a direct
replacement for the factory unit? Does it need an additional ballast or
condensor installed?
Is the Avon Distanzia tire in size 19" x100/90 rated (or adequate)
for use on the rear?
Finally, anyone had expereince with the Amal MKI or MKII carbs? Any recomendations?
I use my '02 500ES everyday (rain, snow, or shine) to commute to work.
Thanks.

Topic: tight brakes
Message: i just replaced the front brake pads on my 350
bullet and even though the link rod and the cable are loose, the wheel
will not budge an inch. like its welded shut! its just from the outward
pressure of the pads against the hub that is stopping it.
what to do?!
email: mitchontheroad@yahoo.com
Reply: I would make sure that
the brake shoes are seated against the pins and cam on the backing plate.

Topic: Oil coolers
Message: I have an '04 Bullet and live in Florida. The
summers here can be brutal on air cooled engines. Does anyone make an
oil cooler for mine or has anyone adapted some other cooler from another
make to theirs. This would be helpful to all of us who live in swelterland.
email: donlayton@earthlink.net
Reply: The oil temperature of
the Bullet does normally not get warm enough to warrant an oil cooler.

Topic: New Electra
Message: I know the new Electra has just now made it
to our shores, but does anyone know if a US magazine plans to do a full
review/road test on one? I am planning on buying an Electra (either that,
or a new Bonneville) since it is the first model that appears to have
solved all the issues I would have had with previous REs. Also, is there
plans to have a separate section or listing in the Parts & Accessories
catelog on the Electra?
Reply: Rider magazine will have
something on the Electra. Also there are lots of accessories in the
current catalog and on the website (www.royalenfieldusa.com)
that are specifically for the Electra.

Topic: Small Tube Out of Exhaust
Message: I have 2005 bullet and where the header pipe
comes out of the head there is a small copper pipe that is welded on to
it and seems to go back to the airbox. Could some kind soul let me know
what this is and what it does. Thanks!
Reply: It is called a PAV valve.
It inject air into the exhaust stream to help further the combustion
of unburned hydro carbons and is part of the emissions system. It does
not detract from the performance of the bike at all.

Topic: Should I bite the Bullet?
Message: Okay, considering buying a new Bullet 500. Planning
to use it as a regular commuter for a short trip--10 mi. round-trip per
day, city streets, no highways. What kind of upkeep can I expect? My mechanical
skills aren't non-existant but not great either--and though I had a motorcycle
years ago, I never had to mess with it much. Imagine I could handle persiodic
valve adjustments but wouldn't be wild about lots of tinkering on a weekly
basis. Am I biting off more than I can chew with a Royal Enfield? Thanks.
email: jjhill@texas.net
Reply: the new Electra
model might be perfect for your use. It requires quite a bit less
maintenance than the older design.

Topic: No start
Message: I recently purchased a 2ooo model RE (one of
the microsoft bikes). It has been sitting for a couple of years and only
has 538 miles on it.
Problem is, I can't get it to start. I put in a fresh plug (properly gapped),
and fresh gas. It doesn't even seem to want to fire at all. I've tried
various choke/no choke etc.
Any ideas?

Topic: Evaluations
Message: I am highly interest in purchasing an Enfield
with sidecar. I have not yet been able to see or test drive one of the
bikes. I watched a TV special on a tour about 50 Enfield riders took in
India. I heard some disparaging remarks about engines freezing up, etc.
I would appreciate some thoughts and comments from some owners and riders
of the bike. Mind you, they were all riding 350's. I want the 500. I am

Topic: Larger Bore
Message: I have imported a 2003 Machismo 350cc from India
and, while it is a joy to drive around town, I have found it a bit winded
at highway speeds. I plan to take it in to a machine shop to increase
its displacement and was wondering if anyone knows how large I can bore
out the 350 LB engine (currently 70mm). I don't believe 500cc (84mm) is
an option, but would like to at least aim for 425 (~78mm)... Thanks!

Topic: Clicking noise/'04 Bullet
Message: I am trying to locate a little click/clack noise
that I get when accelerating. I am trying to distinguish it from "pinging"
To me it seems to be coming from the advance unit (I have ponts ignition).
Does this rattle at all or need adjusting? It seems that no amount of
retarding the timing really eliminates it, so i am trying to rule out
the "ping." Any others with an observation into this?

Topic: Using an SU carb on a Bullet
Message: According to what I've read, the new Electra
bikes will have a constant vacuum carb, which is supposed to be an improvement
over the Mikarb installed on bikes like my 2003 500cc Bullet.
I'm active in my area's British car scene, and wonder if it would be possible
to use an SU carb on my Bullet. That's a constant vacuum carb, and one
of my friends has some for sale right now.
Would this work, and is it a good idea? Also, would I need to use a different
air cleaner or exhaust to get the best performance out of it? Any suggestions
would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Bill

Topic: exhaust leak
Message: I own a 2004 bullet 500 electric start. Recently
I noticed an exhaust leak where the pipe exits the cylinder head. I was
curious if anyone has used the exhaust paste and finned clamp sold in
the catalogue to solve this problem, and if so how did it work? Also,
when shifting into 4th gear at the low end I sometimes loose power and
the bike starts "sputtering". I was curious if this is related
to my exhaust leak? I change the spark plug regularly, and was thinking
it could also be a throttle or carburator problem?
