Topic: Value & Reliability?
Message: I've been considering buying a RE for a couple of months now, but all of the reviews that I have read have really been mixed. Everyone agrees that you need to be prepared to work on these bikes, but some feel that they are poorly constructed out of inferior materials. What's the deal? I don't mind a little wrench work now and then, but I don't want to return to the 60's with all of the oil under the bike and constant repair problems. The bikes look terrific, but I also need day-in and day-out reliability. Also, how much is a sidecar going to pull down the performance and top end speed? Should I consider the performance kit to boost HP? -- Thanks, Charlie in Alabama

Reply: These are good questions!1 The Royal Enfield is made of quality modern day materials so that is not an issue. They do not leak like they used to either so the days of having a pan underneath are gone also. The Classic Bullet models still use ignition points etc and do require maintenance. The Electra has an electronic ignition and a more modern carburetor and require less maintenance. They come with a solid one year parts and labor warranty. With a sidecar you can expect a top speed of about 50mph with the Bullet and 5-10mph more with the Electra.

Topic: New for 2007
Message: I am considering buying
a new Electra early next year. Does anyone know
what changes are in store for the coming year?
Also, the bike I like most is the
classic version of the Electra that I see on the
UK web site. Same bike except
with the chrome tank and fenders. I think this
bike would make a good platform
for some retro custom work (delux springer seat/pillion,
60s style exhaust,
windshiled, bags). Problem is, I haven't seen
this version imported to the US.
Anyone know why?

Topic: Royal Enfield in California
Message: Hello all,
I'm looking for any tips on how to register an
Enfield in California. I know
I'm not the only wanting to do this and I've
found a few folks selling some of
the newer Enfields registered but haven't found
anyone that will tell me how.
I'd love to replace my suzuki with one of these
but I don't want to sell it
until I figure out how to get one registered here.
Also, any word on bringing
new Enfields up to spec with CA regulations? Thanks
for any info.

owners can learn how to care for their machine?

is not a tech school, but you if you can read

Topic: Bobbed fender
Message: Has anyone installe
a bobbed (rear) fender to their Bullet? The Enfield
site used to have a Quicktime movie that featured
a custom Bullet that did in
fact have a bobbed, red fender. I think it was
from a ride in the Southwest.
Anyway, would like to see pictures if available,
and maybe some hints on getting
this to work.
