Topic: 500cc or 350cc?
Message: I have inherited a Bullet 1973, but I don't know if it's a 350cc or a 500cc?
Is there a way to find out through the VIN number or is there another way?
Thank you.
email: bamboula@mac.com

Royal Enfield did not make a 500cc in 1973 so you must have a 350.
They ceased production in England in 1970 and didn't make the 500 in India until much later.

Topic: Dead Light Switch
Message: Anyone know if there is a way to hook up the right hand light switch
that is not functional on US models? It looks like it may work with the right
harness behind the headlamp. Anyone know?
email: msponchiad@state.pa.us

I would never admit to having taught you this, but the US model has a jumper between the control and the wiring harness which makes this switch inoperable. It you merely remove the jumber harness and plug the control directly into the wiring harness the switch will operate.

Topic: Performance kit
Message:Has anyone out there had experience using the 34mm Mikuni carb? The
catalog lists a performance kit for the 500 based on this carb and a classic
exhaust. I was curious as to how this might work on an electra.
email: luoma1@cox.net

This is one of our most popular carburetor kits.

Topic: reliable
Message: what is to be expected as for break in milage? mechanical failure? top
speed? fuel milage in town?
email: byron@hagercycle.com

Break-in mileage is around 1,000. There are very specific instructions in the owners manual. Top speed is 70-75mph, but that is wide open. It is best cruised between 55-60mph. Fuel mileage will vary, but in-town should be around 60 mpg or so.

Topic: Enfield Bobber
Message: I have made an Enfield Bobber from an Indian 1999 Enfield. As well as
creating parts that work the bike has been given new breath with; 535 cylinder &
piston, stage 2 high performance head i.e. larger valves & spec\'ed & lightened
rockers , dialable street cams, high flow oil pump, high performance clutch
springs, lightened pushrods, high output alternater, Boysen batteryless
ignition, free flow muffler system, larger counter sprocket, short shift
shifter, 7\" Blue Dot Light, Old School Levers and Throttle, 19\" white wall
tires, Fork Boots, 32 mm Mikuni Carb, K&N Filter, Electronic ignition, Solo seat
and perhaps other mods that are forgotten. The bike has NO leaks runs or errors
and is fast. Bullett side car is attached when taking the 10 year old kid for
rides. All pieces to bring the bike back to original are there. Send email to

Topic: breakin period
Message: I got my new Electra X in May, 2006. It is a wonderful machine!
I track my gas mileage closely. I find that that it started out at a low of
65-70 mpg right from the dealer, and gradually rose to slightly over 80 mpg at
2100 miles, where it has stayed to right now at 5,000 miles. This is averaged
over all types of riding - city, county roads, and the occasional blast on the
interstate to get around the city.
This suggests that breakin is longer than 900 miles, and critical. I am sure
the machine can take harder usage, but I am glad I took it easy for a long time.
