harness, rear wheel with cog and tire, head lamp with amp meter, and tank with
Indian emblems. Year is unknown but have been told it's probably a 50
something. Have pics. Hoping to find info and honest appraisal.

Topic: Timing a Bullet ES
Message: Can anyone give me some advice relative to timing my Bullet ES with the
Top Dead Center tool I purchased from Classic Motorworks? Thanks!

Put the bike up on the center stand. Put it in 4th gear if it is a 4-speed or 5th gear if it is a five speed. remove the spark plug and thread in the TDC tool. Run the rear wheel forward until the piston is at TDC on the COMPRESSION stroke, not the top of the exhaust stoke. You may have to move this back and forth a few time to find true TDC. Take note of which mark is showing on the TDC tool. Turn the wheel backward so that the piston reverses itself about 3/4 of a cycle and then move it forward again. This will take the slack out of the timing gears. Gently move the piston upward until it is one mark (1/32 of an inch) before the mark it was at at TDC. This is the point before TDC where the ignition should fire. Then loosen the screws that hold the backing plate of the distributor that the points are mounted on. Turn the ignition on. At this point you adjust the plate back and forth until the points just open. They will open electrically long before you can see it with your eyes. When the points are closed the ammeter needle will be in the discharged or negative position. At the moment the point open electrically the ammeter needle will jump to the center of the scale. When that happens tighten the backing plate nuts and you are done.
