Topic: Performance upgrades
Message:Was wondering if anyone has exp. with larger carb (32 or 34mm) on stock
compression 500. Have the free flowing exhaust and K&N filter, etc. Will larger
carb without higher compression make a noticable improvement? Has any body
installed the 8 1/2 to 1 piston with the stock big end bushing ?
email: gpscarpenter@comcast.net
The answer to all of your questions is yes. With a stock piston there is a definite increase in performance. In fact this is the route that most people take. Many customers use the 8 1/2 to 1 piston with the stock big end bushing. In fact other than racers very few customers replace the stock bottom end.

Topic: Rambles....
Message: So the Bullet is on the Up & Up again. A 500cc Military model at the
start, then a retro, then a 80's deluxe, then a trials bike, Now its sliding
into enduro style - still wont have a plate, but will be street legal and ready
as a college hack in a year. Miles up past 50,000 if you'd believe it... doesnt
matter if you do. None of that bike makes sense, its all over the map, bits from
everywhere... god knows if the odemeter is original... does it really matter?
Glorious bike, cant wait for the new harness and switches from our hosts...
Happyness!

Topic: setting contacts
Message: I bought a used bullet and I am doing routine maintenance. The points appeared to be set much wider than .4mm. When I set them to .4 I got 2 sparks--one right before TDC on the compression stroke and one right before TDC on the exhaust stroke. Seems a bit odd.
email: roberte@laplaza.org
The ignition only provides one spark for every two revolutions of the engine. It is not a so-called "wasted spark" ignition which sparks on every revolution. If it is set correctly it is physically impossible to spark more than once every other revolution of the crankshaft. I would think that the issue relates to how you are setting the points. Make sure that the cam lobe on the distributor is at its highest point when you set the ignition gap.

Topic: Spring Start
Message: A properly winterized Bullet will start usually the first 1 or 2 revolutions. A good hot battery and fresh gas and the bike started instantly. Good old reliable singles........dg
