Drive Chain Removal - Request For Comment

Hi All,

Having removed the primary case etc., the time has come to take off the drive chain.

Trouble is, I cannot find the master link. I've been round and round and round the thing and it seems to be a continuous loop of identical links.

Am I correct in assuming I'll have to remove one of the pins to break the chain? Is this achieved by means of some special tool?

The master link is on the inside towards the wheel. Make sure you put it back the same way.

Why? I have never seen one that way. My C5 came with the clip to the outside.

Placed on the outside they sometimes chew into the metal around the front sprocket.  Not much clearance up there.  I'm talking iron barrels here and then not all of them.  Mine did, yours may not.

Maybe a bit late to commetnt, but:

I was given a spare link to carry. It has been painted yellow for ease of identification.

And make sure the open end of the clip points to the trailing edge of the link. If it's forward it can be knocked of by clipping something.
