Final Production of the Cast-Iron Bullets - Special Edition
« on: March 07, 2008, 08:30:33 PM »
I just got back from India and witnessed the production of the final run of Cast-Iron Bullets.
We got the very last 25 of these bikes. They will be here in about 2 months. Each of these bikes will come with special badging commemorating  the "Final Edition"  The badging was designed by our own Scooter Bob one of our great dealers.
The picture is of me showing the guys from the factory where to place one of the badges. Truly the end of an era.

Nice one Kevin!

Quite a coup to get the VERY last cast iron engined machines. Sad end to an incredible production run time the likes of which we will never see again. I wonder how many of these last 25 will get actually ridden and how many will be crated away for posterity?

Sad to see those go, but looking forward to the UCE bikes too!!
Kevin, why don't you see if the factory will cut loose of a few of those RE shop shirts?

Today iI've called Luzeiro, the portuguse RE importer.
They still have a black Classic Std (english style  4 gear box and drumm brakes). But that's it!
Now (due to the Euro 3 regulations) we're only have the new AVL engine with EFI.
You can check out the models in the spanish RE webpage: www.royal-enfield.es
I think it's the end of an era  :(

Boy, am I glad I've sent Matt Lokso of L & L Classic Cycles in Hubbard, OH my deposit on a lovely 2008 British Racing Green one!  I didn't realize they were going out of production so soon!  For my money, that bike looks like a bike should!  Can't hardly wait to get my hands on it. :-*

Ralph,

Not sure if you're just messin' with us or not (sometimes I'm slow to pick up on these things...)

It's the Classic models with the cast iron (non-AVL) engines that have been phased out.

Thumper, you got it. They couldn't meet EPA standards. The end of an era has arrived. The original Bullet motor is now history, after all these years.  The Classic is still available, but not with the iron motor.      Hutch

Too bad the factory couldn't keep producing the old style motor (just the motor) for people who want to make custom retro builds.

I'm not messing with ya!  I think the old cast iron engine looks better than the new AVL engine I've see on the Electra--it's one of the reasons I'm not going for an Electra.  I think the old engine looks better, and it's technology that's been around awhile and has proven its worth (I don't like new computer software for the very reason that you can't quite be sure that the bang out-of-the-box stuff doesn't have a few bugs in it that need to be worked out before it becomes solid and dependable.)  I'm trusting that the CI engines that've been around so long have long since had whatever issues may have been problems worked out.  I hope, anyway. :)

With all this interest and --or sadness one has to wonder why they are doing this.

I dont want a RE UCE ever,--- or even a lean burn.

End of an era??   well it does'nt have to be, but it may well be the end of something a little more that just an era.

Some one needs to explain some basics to them. trying to take on the Japs or even to look like a Jap will be suicide.

Glad I bought mine 3 months ago from the India dealers on Masala Rd Chennai--opposite the thousand lights Mosque.

what a brilliant forum, but a sad time to be joining.
Its not all sadness for me though, I 'found' a 2001 Bullet Classic 500 with just 79kms, that 49 miles on the clock, I should take delivery of it on Friday 29/08/08.
Cant wait, the 'lean burn' is not authentic to me, I would'nt have one, a bit like the new Mini, its not like the old one, the only real resemblance is the name.
Best regards

Wow,  this is the first time I have seen this thread  If I had known I would have tried to get one instead of buying my 07 off the dealer floor last month. Darn..

Has anyone got one of these or have they been snapped up by the dealers?
