Tucson to Seattle in July
« on: March 16, 2008, 12:24:58 AM »
I'm planning on riding from Tucson to Seattle in July, god willing!

If everything goes as planned, I will be cruising on a very slow diesel Bullet.

Anyone interested in joining me for any part of the ride, let me know!

Post any news about your trip here like your route, where you should be on certain days etc. Theres a fair number of Bulletheads around the area.

Yeah, definitely post your route, timetable, etc.  If nothing else, at least some of us greater Seattle area Bullet riders could give a you a Bullet escort for part of your last leg.  I'd love to see and hear more about your diesel Enfield as well.  Is it one of the old Enfield Taurus diesels, or a Bullet that's been converted?

Hi Eamon,

It's a bullet that's about to be converted!

I have the bullet, a yanmar clone engine, and a new engine mount, all ready to go, with most of the parts I'll need.

I bought the bike in Las Vegas, drove it to Tucson where it developed problems. Because it will be easier legally to modify an existing, registered bike than to try to register a highly modified bike, I went ahead and rebuilt this bike with the existing gas engine, in order to register and title it in AZ... which is now completed. Now, I'm going to drive around town on it for a month as is, just for the fun of it, and then rebuild it by July in time for the drive up.

It will be slow... but then, I may be able to make the whole trip on ten gallons of fuel!

I will keep you posted.

Anyone know what kind of mpg the diesel Bullets are capable of getting? I know there is a diesel Kawasaki KLR650 used by the Marines that is supposed to be available to the general population sometime-but it is said to be super expensive.

Jon,

That military bike was supposed to be available to the public and get over 100mpg. It was expensive - at over $16000. It's indefinitely delayed, and rumor has it that it might never make the public market.

A bullet running a yanmar clone engine should get 170mpg right out of the starting gate. I'm planning a number of modifications to get much higher mpg.

Of course, that 170mpg could represent the fact that you are off the bike, pushing it, half the time :)

I think that would be a great trip, fueled by diesel OR gas!

Definitely keep us posted on your conversion!

I'm a huge fan of SVO, Biodiesel, diesel, etc!
