$&#%R& winter be over all ready
« on: March 20, 2008, 03:56:20 PM »
I have a new seat for my Enfield, I should get the chrome fenders I won on ebay next week. But here in Chicago they are predicting up to 7" of mixed rain/snow Friday.

At this rate it will be June. Where's that global warming that everyone is whining about?  >:(

This is the winter that just won't go away. I hope you got out on your bike today! I'm also in Chicago, and this should be the last decent day for a while.

Oh yeah, and happy Spring!  ::)

As far as global warming, don't worry, I'm sure this summer will be mighty hot.

Alas no, I have some maintenance to do before I can get it out. My kick start is slipping bad and I need to install the new pawl I bought.

I have some other parts too: heavy duty clutch springs, 18-tooth sprocket, 4-speed shift bushings, etc. Probably a solid weekend of work including an oil change and valve adjustments. However, I don't have a garage, so I need sunshine and 50+ temps.

It will probably be April before I get a chance to get the work done and start riding.

Nice and Sunny here in Hawaii, temperatures in the high 70's.  Just thought I'd rub it in since I have no other RE's to ride with here.  Great rides but lonely.

Nice there now, but I was there last December when the big storm hit Maui. And we were staying in Kihei. The water ran down Haleakula and flooded eveything. We lost power for two days and were stranded. The water was a good 4 feet deep on the main street through Kihei. You couldn't walk anywhere because it was so deep, and there was thick red mud everywhere. The water was running so fast on the street in front of the condo we stayed at that the cars that tried to get through stalled of course.People strung ropes across the street (which was just like a river) so the occupants of the car wouldn't get washed down the street and out to sea. There was a small drainage ditch next to the condo, which turned into a river and we watched the banks eroding away making the little ditch maybe 10-15 times as wide as it was.We arrived on a Monday, and it rained that night, but the big storm hit the next day. We'll never forget that trip. The damage to the upcountry area on the slopes of the volcanoe was pretty bad.Rodes washed out;trees uprooted and washed away to block roads etc. They had to send a water truck up there with potable water for the residents.

Don't take this too personal, but bite me!   ;)

It's windy and snowing in Chicago this morning. We are under a winter snow warning and could get up to 8" of snow. >:(

Just been out on the Honda VTR as I need to run it occasionally as the Bullet is getting the lions share of riding use at present. Nice sunny day but a cold very strong wind a blowin'.
Well it was fine 'till the sky turned black very quickly and then I was being hit with small hailstones and sleet!
Oh Joy!!!!!!!

It looks like Michigan will miss this storm coming from your direction, at least in the Saginaw, Flint area. No bets on the one big storm we always get in April though. It is a calm ,windless, sunless 22 degrees here in Birch Run, Michigan.    Hutch

DaveG297, Glad someone besides me knows that global warming means more snow across the north and more huricanes in the south. It is from the fresh water melting at the poles and putting more moisture in the air, and taking the salt content of the oceans down from the ice (fresh water). Yeah we lucked out over here in my area of the state. I only have small spots of snow left in the yard, but it is still cold here at 22 degrees. Hutch

*groan* - This morning near Detroit was somewhat cold, but the ground was all clear, and my dirt road was fairly dry-now there must be four inches of snow on the ground, and still coming down hard :'(  I have plowed waaay too much of this stuff this year-I have not had to put the battery charger on my 8N once this winter.
I stopped in a local BMW motorcycle dealership today to pick up a balaclava, and look at the gear and stuff. Those bikes,if you can call them that, look to be from a totally different planet than the ones I am used to ::) I like my bullet better.

The weather down here in Louisville, Kentucky hasn't been much better.  Just a few days ago we had flooding rains (the Ohio River is still at flood stage) and a foot of snow two weeks ago.. :P   Luckily, it was 64 and sunny here today  8), which felt great compared to 35 and drizzly when I rode the bike to the DMV  :(!

Hey Bankerdanny,

If you need some garage space to install your upgrades, let me know.  I have been afflicted with the "No Garage" space disease in the past and help out when I can.  If you need to span more than one weekend that is not a problem either.  I live in Lombard.

Thank you. I appreciate the offer.

It seems that we have several Bullet owners in the Chicago area that are active on this board. When the weather gets nice maybe we should get together. Twisted Spoke in Chicago on Ogden and Grand does a Bike Brunch on Sundays.

yep, cyrusb...

They don't want to look at weather reports here in Tucson.

I drove the bike down here in February, and it was cold but lovely!

Now, it's just perfect... and I am so glad I finally got my bike running in the past two weeks!

Of course, soon enough it will be hot enought to fry an egg on my helmet...

I had mine out on an extended run today,to go to my dealer's open house. The temp is something like 44F, but sunny. The trip was about 25 miles there, and I stayed warm, except for my fingertips-hard to keep them warm even with heavy insulated gloves out in the wind blast. I was pottering along towards home, keeping it around 40mph,when some jack@$$ in a 4x4 duallie yelled at me at a light for going too slow and holding him up.  >:(. I put $4 of premium in my tank today-wonder how much it costs him? :D- probably why he was so irate-well, the heck with him, anyway!

Jeep, it only got to 40 in Birch Run, but I had to check out the windshield on the Kawasaki W 650. 1st ride of the year and the cabin fever was gone and the smile is still on my face 2 hours later. 50 miles at an average 55mph and no jumping in the shower to get warm when I got home. Love that shield. Just loosen 2 screws and off it comes when it finaly gets warm. Looks like I just extended my riding season by a month this Spring and a month this fall.   Hutch

Yeah, I hate those slobbering neandertahls driving those big land barges that are jacked up 8 feet off the ground.Every time they accelerate it has to be like a quarter mile drag race to the death! God help ya if your ahead of them and not doing at least 20 over the speed limit. Then they'll yell at ya, honk at ya, and sneer at ya and ruin your whole day. I've met a lot like that over my 45 years of motorcycle riding.
