Took it out for the first ride since getting my Fireballed Bullet on the road. Man this Sportster is a blast to grab the throttle on. I also put out a local ad to sell it, will be sad to see it go but it is easier to sell one of my bikes than bring two to our next posting, and the Bullet stays. I will get another bike, maybe even another Sportster at our next post to build, hoping I make enough selling this bike to pay for a  5 speed for my Bullet and leave enough to buy another project.... It sold in less than 24 hours on the local on-line free ad, guess that means I am in the market for a 5 speed gearbox for the Bullet

With gusts up to 40 mph the RE had to take a back seat to the heavier Victory Kingpin.  Nice ride down the river but it took 2 hours and a huge bowl of chili to warm up when I got back.

More wind today but I'm hoping to get a couple hours in on the RE today.

Reinstalled my rims with my new Metzeler 880s on the sporty. New plugs and reconditioned and greased the wires..  Might take it for a quick spin later.  Actually the bike is very easy to work on.  Big bolts that don't strip and rubber mallet friendly.

Took our first 100+ mile spin to the beach..

Stopped for breakfast at Dennys and backed into a spot.   All was fine until after the meal as I was waiting outside on the bench for my wife to come out of the restaurant.  Seems a blue hair did not think my bike was in the spot and started to whip right in.  I got up and started to wave my arms and got them to stop within a foot of my bike.   Oh damn,  I share the road with these folks..   ??? ???

WHOA... TOO CLOSE!

I had my parking spot at work changed because my RE was between too large vehicles.  The spot looked empty... and when people pull into spots they tend to look at the cars on either side.  Now I'm on an end where I can put the bike to one side making it much more visible.

But you take that risk parking at Denny's, Garbone!  Next time, pack some road flares!  :D

Well, flares and maybe winklepickers might be close to period correct for an enfield.. Haha.   I have a slight flare on a pair of jeans that quite often catch up on the foot peg when I come to a stop and stop my leg from going to the ground. When I park my bike in an open space between two vehicles I try to keep close to the centre and near the entrance of the spot to be seen.   Glad you were able to stop them before they parked on your bike.

A worse place to park is behind someone. They will back right over your bike. A guy backed a truck into my GB500 in a bank parking lot. His bumper went over my fender and under the headlight and hit the plastic chrome Honda name tag between the two. I rode off later not realizing the bike had been hit, but it was having some weird steering difficulties. Very heavy and grabby. I managed to get it home and started to look at it to see what was going on.
The panel had been shoved back at was squishing the brake hose and binding the steering inputs. Really strange. I straightened the panel and it was fine again. It still has that bent panel on it, though.

Friday, I rode a friends W650 the 30 miles round trip on the four lane to pay my oil heating bill. The sun was out but it was about 41 degrees and 55 mph. Not dressed for it at all.  Today, I took my Kymco People 150 out and about running errands at my preferred speed --25-40 mph on two lane back roads. What a difference an additional 26 degrees Fahrenheit makes.
Probably would have been even better on a G5.    ;D

Happy Thanksgiving to all the folks here in the "States."  Belated "happy" Guy Fawkes Day to the folks in the UK. The connection is that I'm cooking the turkey this year. Hopefully, there will be no bonfire.  ::)

Be well all.
Best wishes.

Wire wheeled another layer of crud off the second half of the '69 Bonnie engine.

The top side of the engine is now clean and shiny.

Time to pull it off the frame and finish cleaning all the unaccessible parts.

Then I can get down to the business of pulling off the front end, rear wheel, subframe and really get going on this project.

The Husky parts look great.

Can't wait to see it all together.

Thank you,TCP. The 'kicker' about this bike is that it isn't mine-YET ;D It's a chum's,who, because of other diversions (3 dragbikes, other street bikes, etc) didn't have the time (or capability) to do it as he wanted it to be.... I may wind up with it ; I have planted the 'seed'...He knows that I'm interested in it if
he decides to get rid of it.
