My RE is in the shop, but over the weekend I resurrected my 2010 SYM Symba 100cc (a Honda Cub clone, with largely interchangeable parts, made in a factory in Taiwan that used to make Cubs for Honda). It needed a new final drive hub and bearing. Here you can see the old and new parts:

And on Saturday I rode the bike up to Palisades, NY for the periodic "Bikes and Breakfast" gathering at the Market on highway 9W. Mine is the red and white clown motorbike in the foreground of this photo:

It won't win any speed demon awards, but it can hold to 52 mph on the flats even with my fat backside on it, and it's 100% highway legal in New York and New Jersey...

Wow!  That hub sure is banged to hell for only being 4 years old!  When I first started reading I was thinking "why is he changing the hub already?"  And then I looked at the pic.   :o

Scottie, I've had a lot of trouble with that hub. The driven sprocket is attached by 4 bolts that run through those channels, and it's separated about half a dozen times in normal use, no matter how much loctite I use and how tightly I attach the lock washers.

Since I seem to be the only one with this problem (the Symba community isn't as active as the RE community, but it's fairly active), I ordered a replacement hub, and sure enough, the channels run straight through. I'm guessing that I ended up in a progressive wear scenario, where running with loosened/wobbly sprocket bolts put extra stress on the channel mouths, which in turn created the opportunity for more bolt wobbling.

(It's also worth noting that I flog this bike, just like I flog my RE. I'm a large person and I ride it hard, on crappy city streets... all according to the philosophy that I bought these vehicles to use, not to keep locked up.)

So far I've done a hundred miles on the new assembly and there's no indication of anything loosening...

Sounds like it was just a fluke. I had a SYM Wolf 150 for a while. It was a little gem! I sold it to my daughter's best friend to learn on. The only thing I didn't like was the giant SYM on the gas tank. Powder coat and a set of custom decals took care of that.

Lots of cool bikes in here  8)

As for me, I got the wife's Night Hawk out of storage and made it roadworthy again:  Cleaned the carb, and a new front tire and tube.  She seemed pretty happy, and now I'll have a riding buddy on the weekends  ;D

That little CB250 does pretty well for itself.  With half the displacement its about on par with the RE when I rode it as far as acceleration goes.  I'd guess it is 80 to 100 pounds lighter, and does have a higher top end than the RE going up to 65mph comfortably.

i just swapped my wifes little wildfire bike. it's supposed to be like a mustang scooter. but it was too small for me (seat spring wise) because she never did get her licence certified for cycle . i got a suzuki gn400 single.rode it home about 40 miles. runs real good. but pops when i let off on the throttle. when i had that problem on my norton i adjusted the air screw. this bikes carb dos'nt seem to have one. any ideas?

Have a look on the carb body for a brass plug. Chances are that if you lever it out with a screwdriver, you'll find an air screw in there you can adjust to fix the popping. That's the case on my Suzuki savage 650 single. They do the same popping thing.
