Tax disc placement?
« on: July 31, 2009, 12:52:56 AM »
I bought one of those repro tax discs and holder  (I know, I know, but I like it)  Anyway, has anyone else put one on?  They are supposed to be mounted on the left side, near the bars, but I'm having a hard time finding a spot.  Any suggestions?

  I mounted mine on the left fork leg where the center fender brace is bolted. used the top bolt. If you have a disc brake up front, it may not fit.

Did mine here.
Only bought the holder. Printed the paper part.
You need to make sure the paper part is thick or water will go in on a rainy day.

I love the tires! What brand are they?
They are Maxxis, a Taiwanese brand.
Here is the URL;

Mind you though, Whitewall is not available in all sizes!

No shame man! Bullets are all about what YOU like! I like the tax disc thingy too. Mines on the front fender bracket also as i have electric start and the tumor projection won't allow it to be mounted where i want. Soooo until i do the KS only conversion the front fender bracket is where it stays!

UK residents please check me on this, but I believe the tax disc was "traditionally" supposed to be mounted on the kerb side of the vehicle so that the Authorities-Having-Jurisdiction could more easily see whether or not you had paid your road-use taxes for the year. That's where I'll be mounting the replica tax disc on Fiona, once it arrives.

(of course, the question now becomes: kerb side for the US or for the UK?)

The tax disks are still used in the U.K. As you say they are fitted kerb side as standard which is left side(sitting on bike) and was fitted onto the same bolt where the horn is fitted,I turned the horn sideways to match the holder.This is the only picture I have of this side at the moment..hope it helps

FYI I have the holder and if you don't cut a spacer the same size as the disc outta' gasket material they will let water in. Seems the cover  doesn't screw down tight enough. Bought mine yrs ago. Dated 1956. Really messes with peoples heads. ???
