Bar end clip stuck in the bar

I have the EMGO bar end convex mirros. They do the job just fine and would like to keep using them on the clubman bars that I just picked up. The clip that expands on tightening the nut inside the bar is stuck inside the old handlebar. Any idea how I could get it out. I am thinking if I screw the bolt in a couple turns then tap gently with the hammer it would move the nut deeper into the handlebar and free the clip. Yay or nay ?

It'll move it farther in, but whether or not it frees it is anyone's guess. I'd try some Liquid Wrench stuff in there before I'd beat on it.

Well the idea is to move the nut further down and hopefully free up the clip. But I m going to lube it up and try to yank it out (and not tip the bike).

Screwed in the bolt, gently tapped it in to disengage......Then push it back further behind the deep end of the clip...Tug the clip out. 30 seconds and done.
