Lost Transmission Oil Fill Bolt (and Oil)

Well, the stripped gearbox oil fill bolt that I thought I'd fixed (
http://www.enfieldmotorcycles.com/forum/index.php/topic,14988.msg164540.html
), fell out on a 30-mile round trip ride to the BBQ truck. Apparently 50mph created too much pressure. Needless to say, all the oil was gone by the time I noticed. Not good.
Since the truck is in the middle of nowhere, I had no choice but to ride it back to work. The bike didn't ride any differently, but there was a hot smell coming out of the transmission when I got back. Really hope it didn't do any lasting damage.
Calling CMW to buy a new transmission cover/bolt.
Lessons learned -- (1) The Permatex thread repair kit doesn't work well (I followed the directions to a "T"); (2) Cheap/quick fixes should not be relied upon permanently. Fix it properly immediately.

Jeff,
You might want to flush that tranny with some solvent before refilling with oil. You could drive it a very short distance or even run it on the centerstand in gear with the solvent just to try and get as much swarf or other debris out. Diesel would even work.
Just a Thought,
Ed

Cool, thanks. After this, I'll take any advice I can get.
At least I can taste the BBQ every time I burp, which is soothing.

That gearbox is tough as nails, my guess is that you will see minimal damage.
