Check oil, side stand or center stand

Just bought 2006 Bullet Classic. No owners manual. Is the engine oil checked on side stand or center stand. Also, dipstick screwed in all the way or not. I cannot find this info on the net.

I've always put the stick all the way in. The most accurate method is on the center stand.  ERC

The oil level should be checked with the bike on the centerstand.
I think when checking the oil level, the cap should be screwed in all the way and then removed to see the oil depth.

Many of the RE's have a two position cap.
The outer position if for riding the motorcycle.
The inner, fully closed position is for shipping the motorcycle.

If the motorcycle is ridden with the cap fully closed (screwed in all the way), excessive crankcase pressures will build up and blow the oil out of the sump (usually thru the crankcase vent).

I do not have a 2 position oil cap. It screws in. Machined threads on a very heavy cap.

On your bike due it being one of the later models the system is supposed to have the stick screwed in. The breathing system is set up different than the older type with the two position cap. ERC
