hey craig, I didn't see your post until now. I actually was seeking out this thread in order to reply to you.

My dad will be bringing 4 tappet covers down this weekend for a test fitting(my parents are visiting for easter...it's crazy how often parents want to visit when you have their first grandchild..hah)

As long as they fit well I will be getting your email address from you again and I'll drop one in the mail.

Glad that we are almost there!

definitely, I've also got some new black swing arm nut covers coming that my dad made as well.
I lost my original ones on my first ride..haha.

it's nice knowing someone that works at a tool & die shop.
he can machine up just about any random thing I end up losing or break on the bike.

yes it is possible. unfortunately my dad is still working on those. but I'd rather have one of those as well....

he has the fins cut out but needs to take them back to work and cut down the edges to match the engine.

I was a little bummed that they weren't done yet but I can tell you that they are going to be amazing once they are.

in the mean time if anyone wants a crack at the polished cover or the sandblasted cover let me know. hitchcocks sells their EFI covers for 12 pounds, roughly $18 US. I'd say a $20 including shipping is fair if anyone wants either of those.

Hi Brandon, I don't mind waiting for the finned one at all. It is also OK/preferable to me if your dad does NOT countersink the screw holes-because I have some nice stainless plain allen head screws already. It will also save him some one operation.  Thanks, Craig

Looks like there is definitely a market for a tappet cover like this... We are talking for an Iron Head Bullet i'm hoping ?
Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say Ni at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress in this period in history.

Unfortunately or fortunately?, b.sheets has parted ways with RE. Not sure if we'll have this tappet cover anymore..

But, if people still want to get rid of the "EFI 500" cover, you can get the Hitchcocks tappet cover. However it says "Hitchcocks Performance" on it. Still better than the EFI 500.

That would be great!  I'd like to have one similar to the one I had on my BSA Goldstar (see photo at beginning of the thread) Although Machinists make about $50. an hour, I'm not sure I could afford one.  I had hoped I'd get one cheap from Brandon Sheets, Having thought up the whole thing. Wonder why he disappeared?
I think it could be a money making enterprise to have a batch made.  It would be good to space the fins to match those on the Crank Case. Also the bolt holes don't need to be Countersunk, that takes up to much room. They will look just fine with regular stainless Allen Head Screws.
I have never had my Plate off, & don't know if there is a trick Gasket Etc. But I would think the replacement plate would seal well with a flat back, just using Silicone Form A Gasket.  Keep Us Informed if you go for it. THANKS!
Best Wishes, Craig McClure

Remember the UCE Bobber?

http://www.enfieldmotorcycles.com/forum/index.php/topic,16305.0.html

Take a good look at the tappet cover:

draggin said he inquired of the builder about selling a finned cover.  Obviously, the deal was done!  C'mon, draggin, we want details!

That Almost gets it, but a very poor fit. Notice lip of opening, or top of actual cover visible above the finned cover. Hmmm, Perhaps that cover is just a dummy of another bike, siliconed over the original flat plate - Just for the photo.  Everything else there is more for looks than function.
A really nice job would be to have the fins follow the lines of the fins on the crankcase & of course fit the actual opening.

Yes I contacted them and they machined one up for me. It cost me an arm, leg, and my wedding vegetables. In less than 2 weeks it's on the bike and to me, aesthetically, totally worth it. It was obviously machined on a Bridgeport or cnc mill, so I sanded it all down with 400, then 600 grit paper, then buffed the snot out of it. Now it's so shiny that it is hard to see the shape in the pictures.

Yes, it's perfectly lined up on the top edge. There's a reflection on the cover that makes it look off, but it's fine as frog hair!

How much would that be in US Dollars?  Ever since I mentioned this, I was taunted by Mr. Shields & now You.  Not fair to a cash challenged old guy!

"84 Quid"?

Sounds like more than I would want to have.

I tried eating one of those things once and you know, you can chew on it for half an hour and it still is like chewing on a piece of rubber.  I don't know why the Orientals are so fond of them.  Even the garlic sauce flavor goes away after the first few minutes.

A nice tender piece of codfish is worth 100 quid anyday if you ask me.

84 quid (143AUD), for that amount, I'll pass. Even though it looks the bomb.

Craig, sorry for my absence. I just got back from Michigan and returned with the below attached. It took what seems like almost a year but they are finally finished. Obviously one is yours.

that leaves one up for grabs since I sold my RE.

now they do look a little different from the other one that surfaced here for 84 quid. unfortunately I do not have my RE anymore to see if they line up perfectly but even if they don't it'll be close.

Hi Aussiedave,  You will love the cover! It is the great bargain of the decade. One of only 2 made by a Master Machinist. It is really beautifully done. Comes with a fine bead blasted surface you can paint or polish, the Gasket area is smooth milled & ready. It uses your stock countersunk Allen Head screws. Tonight, I fine-polished my plate & fin edges, which will contrast nicely with the other matte bead blasted surface. Hope to message it on to my G5 deluxe tomorrow.  I think we are very fortunate to have scored these JEWELS.
BIG THANKS TO BRANDON !
Best Wishes, Craig McClure

You are so right mr McClure . Seems like the work of a true artisan . I hope Brandon will bear with me while I learn to setup a bpay  :)

I mentioned to my dad how much everyone liked these and he said he could probably manage a couple more if there was anybody interested.

with that being said, anybody interested if I can get a few more made up?

Hi Brandon, I would imagine that they would sell well at the price I paid, & might even turn into a nice sideline for your pop. I suggest you have him join the forum, & contact me, so I can send him my photos to use in his enterprise. He could then deal with clients directly.
VERY HAPPY WITH MINE & Thanks Again!
Best Wishes, Craig McClure

Craig, great idea! We are currently trying to get his 87' Virago up and running which is the motivation to make a few more if there is interest. It's difficult for me to help with his bike being 12 hours apart but did what I could when I was home on leave and I sent him a clymer manual and that has helped alot.

I hate to say it, I don't even think my dad would know his way around the forum, haha. I'll have to set him up a profile and see if he ever logs on. If you'd like his email feel free to PM me and I can give it to you, I'm sure he would love to see some pictures. I talked to him on the phone today and told him the "master machinist" line and he just laughed and said "after more than 30 years I'd hope so". He's been doing this work ever since he graduated from high school.
We are both glad that you are happy Craig.

I'm interested, but without digging through the previous 60+ posts... what was the price?

Or perhaps more appropriately, what would the price be for one from a second run?
