Clothing options

I'm looking at upgrading my riding clothing. What are your suggestions? Leather, cordura, jeans, armour or not, style, for both jackets and pants.

Just to make a quick start here. You can save a lot of money and get better weather protection and just as good fall off protection with textiles as opposed to leather.  Now all you have to do is decide what kind of styling you want, retro or modern, how much cold and wet do you want to protect yourself against and how much are you willing to pay!

Whatever you wear, buy stuff you'll actually want to put on.  A full-leather armored suit does you no good if you're going to leave it in the closet.

Recommendations have to be keyed to your needs.  Are you looking for something to throw on for all-day weekend rides?  Short commutes, worn over office clothing or your normal day-to-day casual wear?  Budget?  etc. etc.

I find I keep changing my gear.  I started off with street clothes on my scooter then bought a nice do-it-all textile jacket.  Then I switched to a motorcycle and full gear with textile pants, leather jacket, riding boots, and flip-up helmet.  After a while with that I got tired of wearing gear that was too bulky and uncomfortable to walk in and the flip-up helmet was heavy and gave me a kink in my neck.  Now I'm down to a half-helmet with goggles, carhart thick cotton pants, the first textile riding jacket, and my sperry top-sider shoes with half-chaps that turn any shoe into a boot more-or-less.  Point is, don't over think stuff too much because, if you're like me, you'll be changing things up again next year anyway.

i like www.motorcyclegear.com they have last years models for a good saving. i'm not fashion conscious i just want it to keep me warm/cool and protect my skin if i fall off.

Leather jacket with armor or armored mesh jacket depending on weather.  Kevlar draggin jeans, gloves, boots and full face helmet.  Only time I will not have all the gear is if I am just running around town on my 50cc honda.  But never in shorts or no jacket/gloves helmet.

They ride like that in India (well not the shorts, u be hard press to see that)..I've done that in the past on a hot summer day on the enfield. It's a great feeling till u get a bee down your wind blown shirt or bugs zapping your legs/arms...I know better and it's only a lapse in reasoning that it happens from time to time....Reminds me of a 60's coca cola commercial meandering down a beach road at 30-40 mph or was that a vespa..

I came away from a 40mph low-side slide relatively unscathed due to my cordura jacket with armored elbows, shoulders, and back.  Slid just fine on my elbow and side while hanging onto the bike.  You can get armored jackets in just about any style now, and any temperature weight, but that stuff works.

I wear armored boots too (toes, shins, and heals) that look like very plane, (synthetic) leather boots.  Looking for a good pant option. Might try kevlar jeans but I'd like to have some padding/armor there too without looking more like I'm heading out on a snowboard than a moto.

Agreed...go down once and you will see it does not take much to get goofed up; and dont forget your stick-on mowhawk for the helmet.

Has anyone tried/ seen the maple jeans?  They look great online, and the protection sounds top notch, I just can't get past the price...  ANY insight as always is appreciated...

I will have to get back to you on the experience with the Maple jeans as I just ordered them. I like supporting people and or businesses who do innovative and different things, and hopefully I will get a better product and or experience and continue to have choice in the market place. I was an early adopter with Ace for fireballing my Bullet and I would do it again, in fact i might when Aniket gets his V-twin kit on the market.

I'm all for paying for quality...I own two Vanson jackets...but with the Maples, not only does the price exceed my utility (both practical and aesthetic) for any pair of jeans, but that cinch on the back just kills the potential appeal for me.
