Solo seat on a G5 Deluxe

Hey folks,
So I'm finally getting around to fitting a solo seat on my G5 Deluxe. Last time I took the stock seat off I remember this big bracket that runs under it and thinking, "this is going to look awful when I put on that solo seat." Can I just unbolt the whole bracket or is a fixing point for the rear shocks? Anyone work around this?

It holds the fender and I think it's welded on, not bolted. The nicest thing I've seen done is bolting a chrome oval luggage rack to it. I think it's a standard piece from NField Gear and/or Hitchcock's for an older bike. It bolts up, looks good and is functional, and the shiny chrome makes the ugly subframe largely fade away into the background. Sorry I don't have the specifics, I'm sure someone will chime in.

Can you post a picture of what the G5 looks like with the seat removed, jmalona?

If you search "single seat" in Members Rides" you'll find a pic of John Hut's G5 DL with Hitchcocks studded solo seat & rack (available in black or chrome) fitted.
Both bolt straight on.
I tried the same set up on my G5 DL, but didn't like it so much when I saw it "live". I wasn't too impressed with the quality of the seat either.

I went with the sprung solo from Hitchcocks, I like the little chrome rack idea if I can't get the entire thing off. I'll post a photo with the seat off when I get down to bolting the thing on.

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. This is what I wound up with.

Looks doable. How do you find the ride hight? Same as the dual?

Actually it felt a couple of inches higher at first. I don't even notice the difference now. I have a 34" inseam, when standing supporting the bike my butt is still a couple of inches above the seat. Very comfortable ride.

Jack, can you confirm that it is welded on? Or is that frame removable that is over the rear fender?

So it's bolted on...
You can't take it off without the rear fender being unsupported, though, I suppose.
I want to run a solo seat without that frame just for the clean look. Would that be possible if I don't carry a passenger?

The fender bolts to the frame piece. No frame, no fender.

I have seen the fender on a G5 suported with only the Rear fender braces used on C5's. it takes some fender drilling, & a small home made bracket at the footpeg ends. Not especially hard, & looks clean when finished. I'm not using a brand new pair of the black ones, if you are interested....
