The down tube on the bike you mention appears to differ from the one on bikefix. Is that a different version of the egli frame?

I have never been a great Egli fan, but I think there are several variations out there. I remember the first one I saw in the '60s I thought was quite ugly, in fact, I always called them Ugli-Vincents. However, the one I have the picture of doesn't particularly look the the old one I saw.

Vincents have no down tube. The engine is hung from the top tube.
What you are seeing in that area appears like it might be an oil line . They carry the oil in a small tank which is nested under the main tank, and has a filler cap forward of the fuel filler cap.

That Egli-Vincent that Bare showed the photo of, is actually a Godet-Egli-Vincent. Godet is in France, and he was a fanatical restorer and fan of the Egli-Vincents, and his work was so good that Egli licensed him to make Egli-Vincents and use the name Egli-Vincent

In the photo you posted, the bike appears to have no rear brake. In fact the line from the pedal appears to bend towards the front of the bike before disappearing into the frame. Am I seeing that right?

It looks like the brake cable just loops over the trannie and goes to a rear drum brake.

Where did I mention a downtube? The tube on the front of the bike that I took a picture of is an oil line. The frames look similar, but the Godet version looks like it might hae a smaller backbone, but it's hard to tell. The tank comes farther forward and looks better.
