700cc????.....750cc////////

Can a 700cc cylinder be rebored to 750cc size? Or.....What are the differences in the two cylinders? Height? Lower cylinder that fits into the crankcase?? Thanks....Kenny

750cc is 736cc 93mm stroke 71mm bore. 700cc is 692cc 90mm stroke 70mm bore. The connecting rods are the same on both. Cylinders are different.   ERC

The 700cc cylinders can use the 750cc piston as an oversize if they need to be bored that far. There are fair amount of interchangeable parts used between the two but the heads, cylinders, crankshaft, and case are different. The valve train, with the exception of the push rods, is all interchangeable. Ignition systems and much of the primary & transmission are interchangeable too. The Galaxy models were the only single carburetor version of the 750 but they had a special manifold to cross over.

I actually just looked into this myself.  +.040 over bore on a stock 700cc cylinder will put it at the standard Interceptor 736cc bore.  Here's the link I got sent by Hitchcock's.   Scottie

Unless you've got a pair of worn out + 0.020 cylinders, I think it's a really bad idea to go 0.040 over just to gain a few cc's.
My experience based on wearing out three pairs of cylinders in the 41 years I've had my Interceptor is that 0.040 over is as far as you can go, and even that's pushing it; I had one + 0.040 cylinder develop a crack in the spigot section.
Why use up your cylinders to gain 20cc or so extra displacement?
