Try Our New Beta Store!
« on: June 10, 2008, 04:36:36 AM »
Everyone is invited to the all-new Royal Enfield Online Store out for a test-drive. The store can be found at http://store.royalenfieldusa.com/.

The new store has many improvements over the existing store... including improved merchandising (you can now shop by price, model compatibility and more), improved store search, guest checkout, product tagging (customers can add tags to any product to help make it easier to find), improved product availability information and more!

For our international customers, we've also added an in-site currency conversion tool and real-time international shipping quotes, something that's been on many people's wish list for a long time  ;)

The store is fully-functional and any orders will be filled. Please give it a try for your next online order and let me know what you think!

It seems to work pretty well, I especially like the search feature over the other site.  I would like to see a little larger viewing area on the product zoom.  Once you zoom in you can't see the whole photo and can't scroll around to view it.
When clicking on wheels and tires  under parts & accessories I get one of those windows popping up that tells me it can't open the site.
You guys just keep improving, good work.

Hi Leonard,

Thanks for the feedback! We're looking at some other zooming/enlargement option, but you should be able to drag the enlarged photo around when you're zoomed in to see other areas of the clipped image.

Thanks for reporting the Issue with the Wheels & Tires link, I'll see if I can find what's going on there...  :-\

One issue I found is if you go under Parts & Assec... then go to Performance, then select "view all", I get a bunch of code instead of product.

What I have examined, I like. Caveat coming! However, there is no link to return to Enfieldmotorcycles.com. There, wasn't such a bad caveat afterall.

From the "Featured Product"  area on the store homepage, clicking on any of the "browse all" leads to a page not found. Also, will there be reviews of products?

Thanks, deejay. Some of our rewrites weren't working on those links  :-[. They should be all set now. Yes - reviews were a major item for this store, so any registered member can review and share their experience with products.

I'd like to see some measurements included on the items. It's tough to tell, for instance, how big turn signals are, how wide the steel side carrier frames are, etc.

As a new buyer, I'd also like to see more views of the bike models on the main site: shot from behind, closeup, instrument details, etc. 10-15 photos would make it easier to choose what bike is right for me.

This is very good idea. There are a lot of products in a queue here for new product photography. I'll try and see if we can start taking reference measurements as part of the same cycle and adding that information to the store as well.

As a new buyer, I'd also like to see more views of the bike models on the main site: shot from behind, closeup, instrument details, etc. 10-15 photos would make it easier to choose what bike is right for me.

This is another really good idea. I think we're a little under-photographed for our bikes on the site, too... the trouble usually has been that they're large and difficult to handle so to get really good nice shots the transportation, prep and studio costs are surprisingly high compared to smaller widgets and studio sessions are difficult to coordinate, especially for turntable shots.

We're starting to get creative here as to what we can do in our own makeshift studio and we're also working to coordinate and share some of these efforts with Royal Enfield Motors, so I think it's safe to say that you'll see cool new shots and material here in the not-too-distant future.

You can get great "studio" results by simply taking photographs of products on an overcast day outside. No sun, limited shadows, the lighting is perfect. Get some large sheets of white paper to place product on and you're golden. This is what I did when I worked at a not-so-wealthy design studio back a few years ago.

This is a good way to go. We've followed a similar game plan for a few recent bike shots - especially ones with limited runs - like the Electra Classic (Machismo Kit) bike we featured a while back. We've had some good luck doing indoor shooting, too just by controlling lighting in our showroom and using an isolated background.

Creating a large enough background area for shooting motorcycles can be difficult, though - even with a smaller bike like the Enfield!

In a way, we've tasted the forbidden fruit, though. All of these options seem to pale in comparison to the "real" studio shots with perfect lighting on every piece composited together from several shots, beautiful polished reflections on chrome and paint alike and the extraordinary 32 megapixel capture size from the crane cameras.

We often times have to laugh at ourselves. Some of our  pictures are old and really need to be replaced. The sidecar cover is perhaps the best example

The sidecar cover is the ultimate example.
However here I am not laughing. I am crying.  :'(

The story here is essentially that a few years ago, someone went and grabbed a picture of the cover on one of our sidecar rigs inside the Royal Enfield show trailer. Mind you, they did this without even troubling to move the Honda that was parked not only in-frame - but in the way!!

Somehow, some way, this picture has never died. Much to my chagrin and everyone else's amusement, it remains to this day the picture that we published in the catalog for the sidecar cover.

For reference, the picture is here in all it's 0.2 megapixel glory: Sidecar Cover

oops, you're right. i missed that. perhaps what i meant was a more visible option, perhaps with a star rating system that gives a general impression on the products, or even better, a couple of the reviews right below the entry for immediate perusal.

That's a good idea. I started looking at how we could make the reviews feature more visible after your post. You're not the first person to miss it at first glance.

A star rating system is a good idea, too. Everyone likes to have an at-a-glace way to eyeball the popular opinion of a product. I'll see what we can do.

I liked the store. I had a few things to order so I gave it a try; simple. Then I tried to find just a simple oil filter...   only 5 pak set available. Even did a search: oil filter
came back not available...  in an attempt to simplify you'd think I would be able to buy just 1 oil filter.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for trying out the new store.

I'm not sure what happened with the oil filters while you were looking. I tried the same search for "oil filter" but I got them back right away - first two results:

http://store.royalenfieldusa.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=oil+filter&x=0&y=0

We've got thousands of them in the warehouse, too. I really can't explain why the might have been unavailable during your search.  :-\

Can you help me out?  I open new online store html and logged in.  I have a different shipping address from my billing address.  But when I edit one it changes both.  You show them separated and under each is edit address but again either one I pick and edit it changes both.  Is it a glitch or am I doing something wrong.  Please advise, Thanks, Eric

I think so. We certainly have a lot of good clearance candidates. I'll have to buzz Tim and see where we stand on that. In a shameless plug here, I'll point out that we've got a pretty good revolving selection of cheap buys in the Clearance Center.

Rhett,

I'm looking for the threaded ball-end pushrod adjusters for the Electra-X AVL engine. I found three types in the new Beta store, but none for the AVL.

I'll contact customer support to see if they're available.

Hi CMW Online Team - I have been trying to place an order for a couple of things I need (7" preassembled headlight and a side stand) but I never get past the stage of "Add to Cart" on any one item...i.e. it keeps "circling" and after 15-20 mins ends up in a "500 Internal Server Error" page. I have tried it at multiple times in the day over this weekend but same result.

Is this a problem you are already aware of?

Cheers

Hi CMW Online Team - I have been trying to place an order for a couple of things I need (7" preassembled headlight and a side stand) but I never get past the stage of "Add to Cart" on any one item...i.e. it keeps "circling" and after 15-20 mins ends up in a "500 Internal Server Error" page. I have tried it at multiple times in the day over this weekend but same result.

Is this a problem you are already aware of?

Cheers

Sounds like it could be a security setting on your web browser.  I'm pretty sure the store is up and running.  Have you tried just giving them a call?

Hi Eamon - thanks for the response. I plan to call them tomorrow and order the parts. I am unable to figure out the website and security settings.

Thanks

Couple ideas: description should say if it's efi compatible, especially the mufflers and seats. Also, wish kist should total parts cost, and some parts on the wish list don't show prices.

Confusion : The part #s for main jets, they suggest are hex head jets for VM series Mickarbs , & i don't think  they be retrofitted on a CV BS29 carb which has slotted head type main jets
I have my own doubts but would appreciate if any tech. experts, watching this post could help

Thanks.

This query is posted all the way from India, thats where i am located and i don't have a magic jack handy to make fone calls, hence taking advice from the forum.

Thanks.

I like the shop by model compatibility option.  It decreases the time I've spent wading through parts that don't fit my bike

I'm confused (nothing new there).

Why isn't Canada an available country in the address field?

I always presumed that about every corner in India had some sort of Motorcycle shop and that many carried RE stuff.  I figured at least someone would have things like carb jets and basic parts.  heck, can't folks there contact the factory for stuff or at least a large ship in Chenai??

From my browsing I find a lot of things are available in India for the Royal Enfield Bullets.

I've also heard, read and don't doubt that a lot of the stuff is boarderline junk.

While I respect Kevin's desire to only import things that are of the best quality it seems the shelves at his Nfieldgear store is getting more than a little bare.

IMO, it is time that a concerted effort needs to be made to restock the shelves as soon as possible, especially with the gaskets and filters needed for maintenance.

I made an order and my exhaust was back ordered. I emailed a question about adding a part to the back order with no response.

Have others experienced a lack of communication also??
I have had no shipping notice, no response, and seems like there is no one to call.

I would like to

They are pretty poor at responding to E-Mail but I've never had a problem when I called Nfieldgear at 800-358-0938

They always answered and found my orders on their computer.
They were always easy to talk to and gave me direct answers.
Their only failing was that they are often out of many of the parts they offer and it seems the boat from their sources is a very slow boat indeed.
