2006 Electra X regulator - and rectifier???
« on: June 01, 2013, 06:11:54 PM »
Hi,
I've ordered a new voltage regulator (OEM Voltage Regulator (AVL)    502039/B      $82.95) but have a question. First, the background -
- Bike was running just fine (and still runs just fine)
- When the headlight is on (as it usually is), the ammeter drops to 1/4, down in the red
- Old school test fails - rev motor, headlight intensity does not increase
- VOM test fails - a) battery at 11.5 volts, b) running and rev'ing the engine the VOM does not increase

So, I ordered the new regulator.

What about the rectifier?
Not a combined regulator/rectifier unit for the AVL?
If not, where is it?
How is it tested?
And - should it be bad - where to get a replacement?

Sheeeesh...I Thought I knew about electrics!

tia,
Matt

Matt,

I just checked the manual, it's a three-phase regulator/rectifier unit on the Electra-X. If the OEM fails a generic replacement should do the job. I think the iron Classic Bullet engined bikes had separate rectifier and regulator units (plus an AC regulator for the headlamp feed post '99).

Regards,

A.

+1. Check out the link http://www.enfieldmotorcycles.com/forum/index.php/topic,16542.0.html.

I don't think the AVL and UCE RRs are the same, but functionally it's all the same stuff - 3 phase rectifier with thyristor regulation.

Matt, the Electra X has a single unit that serves as rectifier and regulator. This can be found underneath the front seat.
About the headlamp intensity not  increasing when revved - this is a DC wired circuit, so it should mostly remain at the same intensity, unless the battery charge is not at par.

Thanks all for the replies.

Thanks Machismo - that's what I was hoping for since a already ordered the unit!
