my Enfield updates
« on: June 05, 2013, 09:28:54 AM »
I just thought I'd share some updates I've made to my Enfield.
I have installed the MK4 ignition and have to say that it has so far worked flawlessly!
A couple of weeks ago I ordered and installed a new Amal Mk1 30mm Concentric and all I can say is wow, the warm ups have completely changed, it will idle on it's own cold and it no longer randomly hiccups while riding like the stock Micarb did. I don't have to fiddle with the idle in the morning, too low, and then have it be way to high in the afternoon once the outside temps have risen. It has completely changed the bike! The first time I rode it I kept thinking it had died at the lights only to realize that the idle was so much smoother then before.
OK, end of gushing!! :) here is a recent picture:

It is indeed a sweet looking bike..The 30 mm concentric sounds like the ticket vs that finicky when cold Micarb that came with the bike. I haven't had the stop, idling, dying out with that specific carb but it does take a wee  bit of adjusting depending on the atmospheric conditions. Is the MK4 ignition a electronic upgrade?
Oh Magoo you done it again

Thanks for the nice comments! I have had the bike for a little over a year now and love it more and more each time I ride it. One day when it comes time to rebuild the motor I will look to you Ace for a fireball upgrade but right now it is running so perfect in stock form, only the swept back Goldie exhaust and Amal have changed. I know that the previous owner had posted a long time ago because he installed the 32mm Amal and couldn't get it to run, I think it was just a little to much or wasn't jetted right. The 30mm once installed fired right off and ran perfect. Yes the Mk4 is an electronic ignition, it is an upgrade from the old Boyer mk3 that had issues if the battery got low.

Thanks again everyone! The bike is currently at a point where I don't have anything I think I need to do to it so I can maybe shift my focus to my other hobby, my Datsun 510, it needs some love and I am ready to give it some! I am heading to Oregon this weekend in the 510 to attend the Annual All Datsun Show, I didn't go last year for the first time in 6 years as I was infatuated with the new toy (the Enfield)! Should be alot of fun and maybe some good parts gathering!

I am considering changing my solo seat to the dual Hitchcocks seat that you have on your bike. Can I ask how comfortable is it ?? I'm 6ft1 and the single seat is not long enough for me :( and I will be selling it. While im on that point, anyone have any ideas how much I could get for it ??

it took me a little bit to get used to the dual seat, it is a little thinner then the solo seat that was on the bike when I got it and a little softer. The solo seat felt alot firmer.
I am shorter then you, 5'8" and actually liked alot that the Hitchcocks dual seat was thinner as it helped me feel like my feet were firmer on the ground when stopped..

Thanks FVT ... Your bike looks great, and a softer seat will be ideal, I have the Hitchcocks gel pad that I will be able to use if I need to gain any height...
