Oil Feed Threading?
« on: June 20, 2013, 03:05:39 AM »
Anyone happen to know the threading in the case for the rocker feed line? (in this instance, a 2002 500cc US-market Bullet)

Don't have access to check the engine right now.  Thanks!

I thought the oil returned thru the pushrod tunnels?
Are you asking about the thread size for the banjo fittings?

Sorry, meant "rocker feed line."  Was early here and I had not had coffee...will edit.  Looking for how it threads into the case.  Or is it fit some other way than threading?

And unfortunately, I'm not sure which of the two size banjos used on various years my head has, but if anyone has the spec for one or both, that'd be useful too.

I never had to tap any of them, but I think that the small one is 8mm and the larger one is 10mm. I don't know the thread pitch, but with a 2002 it is likely going to be metric.
Best way is to take the banjo to the hardware store and see what size nut threads on to it.

I think 2002 is British. ERC

I'll see if I can get Mondello's to find out the size on your head.

If your talking about the banjo bolts for the oil line, the metric ones are 8mm x 1.00. The British ones are 5/16 x 26. I think 2002 was close to a change over year from British to Metric. The threads are almost identical to look at.  ERC

Thanks!  Also interested in the junction between the case and the rocker feed line, if anyone happens to know how that works.  Assumed it was threaded somehow too, but I could be way off...

Wish I could just go mess with the bike and see, but the bike's out of my hands at the moment.

Edit:  Ah, right.  So the case is male-threaded for the oil pipe nut to screw down on.  That's what I thought.  But does anyone know...what's that thread?

That must be for a 350. I have never seen any 500 case with a fitting like that.
All the 500 KS and ES cases that I have seen are female threaded into the case, and probably something like the 5/16" or 8mm size.
In fact, I have never seen any oil line like that, ever.

If you go on Hitchcocks you'll see them for the 350s and early 500s. Looks like the same thing.  ERC

Wow.  Thanks for the info!  That's how my 1977 350 is, now that I see the pic and recall.

I'll have Chumma check it out on my cases when he's back in the States...
