AMAL 376 adjustment/set-up
« on: June 24, 2013, 02:31:02 PM »
Took the old AMAL 930 off of my '99 DLX,because it was leaking, and needed a cleaning and re-build...installed a freshly rebuilt, brand new looking 1966 AMAL 376...which leaks like a seive...I hope that the gaskets will swell up,as they absorb fuel,I've tightened EVERYTHING... :-X...I'll take another crack at it tonight...any advice,oh enlightened ones?

Everything that I've learned about the Monoblocs is that if you still have one that hasn't been warped or over-torqued, you're probably very lucky.  I pulled the Monobloc off of my Trailblazer because the flange was a little warped and not sealing correctly, plus the sleeve is so worn out that the slide would cocked and wedged at WOT.  Eff that crap.  I tried for a week or so rebuilding the carb and honing out the sleeve, but the slide would still get wedged once in a while so I replaced it.

Put Gasoila E-Seal on the stuff that's leaking.Just don't get so much on that it will get in the bowl or in the inline connections. Check if it's your needle leaking and whether it's flooding.   ERC

Well, good news...it appears that the only leak is from the banjo...the fuel was running down the body, which made it look like it was much worse than it really was...it's threatening to rain, but I'll certainly post pix when I've sorted things out...thanks for your help,men...

SUCCESS!!!Maybe it was the fact that I let the gaskets swell up...maybe it's because I replaced all of the old fuel lines with new ones, and better spring clamps, instead of worn out hose clamps, but after I adjusted the throttle stop and air-screw,tightened all of the screws and nuts one last time,a little tickle,a few priming kicks, and PUTT-PUTT-PUTT!And NO LEAKS...took her around the block, and she positively GROWLS...the wide open Goldie sounds GOOD,and now she can breathe...happy Bulleteer, that's me...check out the pix!BEFORE:

Most folks get the Monoblocks resleeved if they get worn. Once a good wear sleeve is in there they last pretty well. Burlen Fuel Systems has new parts for Amal Monoblocks or whole carbs. I'd be pretty sure Hitchcock's gets his spares from them. I don't think Burlen sell the body seperately as a part though. A person would have to buy a new carb to get a new body. The newer materials & casting techniques should be better than those from over a half century ago.

I like the velocity stack!  I've been playing with that idea, but I'm afraid of sucking in dirt and crap when I'm riding on dirt roads.  Glad you got it figured out.  :)

Thanks,Scottie...the velocity stack has a screen over the mouth, but I'm thinking about putting a little fine-mesh bootie over it,to keep the chunks out...I'll probably put a velocity stack on the 389,on the Chief, too,if this one works out...gotta put a little "R" clip on the tickler,though...it stuck today, and just POURED gas...oops...runs and sounds really good though...glad I got it sorted out...hope Hitchcock's gets your order straightened out!
