Changed G5 fork oil
« on: July 28, 2013, 03:24:40 AM »
Hi guys (G'day to our upside down brethren)

Changed the oil in my G5 forks today. They were not working very smoothly and I remembered a post from way back that talked about low quality oil from the factory.   (I tried to reply to that post but a red box suggested I start a new topic)

Anyway, that post had reports of different quantities of oil so I thought I'd report what I found.

Each fork drained almost exactly 200 ml of oil.  It was REALLY dirty and seamed much thicker than the bel ray 10 wt I put in.  I had too many beers whilst doing this to test ride, bt I have a feeling this will take care of my issues

Peace

Put about 60 miles on it today. Definitely way less bouncy at speed. Much smoother around town too.

All in all. Really happy with it

Now that you are finding what the ride qualities can be, have you changed to Hagons yet?
That'll finish the job!

Wait 'til you put decent shocks on it.  It'll be so much better.

Shocks will have to wait for next spring, school starts in a few weeks and that will eat up all my free dollars.  Plus I want to get my Honda back up and running soon, the enfield s great, BUT in Montana, it just doesn't cut it for highway trips.   The speed limit here is 75and most people drive about 85. Not talking the interstate either, at least it has 2 lanes so they can pass you safely.  With my fat ass on it 72 mph is about all the G5 will do, people still blow by me on back roads like I'm doing 30.   The Honda, with it's 63 horses and 6 forward gears is a better choice for out of town trips
