Primary cover removal question.
« on: October 18, 2013, 12:13:12 PM »
I'm about to adjust my primary chain. I've removed all chaincase bolts and pulled the outer case about 2cm out but have stopped because it feels like the alternator wire is preventing the case from coming off. It's still got the gear lever to pass through it. Is it safe to pull it the last 1cm or so? - I don't want to damage the wiring. Or must the rubber grommet at the top of the case be pulled off first to free up the wire? - the grommet is very tight in it's groove, almost glued in. Please see the attached photo to see how far I've got.

That rubber grommet just slides out forward towards you.  It shouldnt be fixed in place by anything (unless someone sealed it in).  I'd try the 'wiggle' method; wiggle it and try sliding it forward at the same time towards the cover  ;D.  It'll come free.

Here's what mine looks like with the cover off.

Hey, thanks DanB. It was tight but I got it off eventually.
