1500 + members and counting
« on: January 08, 2009, 02:39:58 AM »
I was wonder if at some point  in time ,the inactive members would be removed?
Seems odd that someone would sign up and never use the forum.

Update:2100 and counting.

Some people like to be "lurkers", and just read, but not post.
Alot of forums are like that.

And yes, some may have sold their Bullets and moved on, or decided not to get a Bullet and moved on.

Pozer, I would have to agree with Ace. I signed up and made vary few posts in the first year but became very active as of late do to a slow down with work. I would have to believe that a lot of members are "lurkers" and will eventually find the time to enter into some discussions. As far as removing the inactive members, I would have to say it would probably would be a mistake. Since we are a very small cross-section of the motorcycling community we need the strength of membership; that is part of what draws in  new members. I feel this is the #1 forum for RE enthusiasts and that it will evolve into a something even bigger/better in the future. We have to support everyone that has an interest in what this forum has to offer no matter how involved they are. Hopefully forum membership translates into new Bullet owners!   Blltrdr

When you are signed in can you see how many members are on-line and who they are? I can as a moderator but am not sure about the rest of you. It is very interesting. There are almost always more guests than members. For example as I write this there are 23 guests and 8 members. What I find interesting is that many of the members names are not familiar to me. Lots of people like to read, some join and read and some are more comfortable posting. It is pretty hard given the software to try to figure out who is inactive and who isn't short of going through the stats for all 1500+, which is something I have no desire to do. I have also learned that some of our customers dip in and out. We won't hear from them for 3 years and then all of a sudden there they are again.

I've been lurking here for years & only recently registered. And I don't actually log in unless I'm posting. It's probable that many of these inactive members are no longer with us, but how many? And which ones?

Im not a lurker I joined up and posted immediately . Incidentaly I can see who is on or not.

There are times when I am the only one on when America sleeps.

That when I post my most daring posts and opinions.

Like now there is 4 users,--Clamp, old and in the way. green machine and tye4

     1500+   are you sure?

I did some checking and within the last month about 500 different members signed in and were on the forums. If you are a member and do not sign in while you are visiting you are NOT counted in that number. There are usually more guests on line than members at most hours of the day. If you are a signed in member I think the forum stats are available at the bottom of the page. At the end of the day it is pretty tough to tell who is active and who isn't. When I am in India and the time is the polar opposite of the US Clamp is right there are very few people on late into the night, but oddly enough there is usually someone.

What difference would it make, anyway?  It's not like you have to walk around a room full of dead names... (Is it?)

I have been hanging since last summer and it does seem a bit busier....  Kevin should put up an ad banner and make some money on this thing....

Dear REpozer
I don't think that removing inactive members is a good idea, there may be some
reason as to why these members cannot join in, it could be that they don't have
direct access to a computer.  We have members in our local bike club who only come
occasionally and we are quiet happy to go along with this.  It is far better to have
1500,members than to remove inactive ones and be left with a few hundred.
Just as a point of interest i don't have a computer,i go to a computer building
where i have access to a one and my time is very limited and sometimes i can't
all ways get into the forum.
Yours in Enfield.
