There will never be a Military C-5. We will have Military G-5's. They will not have crashbars or panniers from the factory.

Will there be or are there already military (metal) panniers available for the Electra frame?  I haven't found them anywhere.

That will work too, mounting the panniers should not be a problem, I did it on my Chang Jiang and they are easy to get and install, I would put a gas can on one side pannier on the other maybe???

I am selling the boat!  anybody like sailing on the columbia ?

The G-5 uses an Electra frame too, but it's repainted to more resemble a Classic, and the front fenders are more substantial/less sporty.  The E-5 caters more to European customers, whom have apparently flocked to the Electra.

G-5= Electra frame with alterations
E-5= Electra frame, fenders and all, with the new engine being the only change.

Well I'm totally confused now!!
What in your opinion are the "alterations" that are different to the E-5 or Electra(apart from the engine) or does E-5 = DL?

But, I gotta ask: Where did the Luis come from?  This is Papa Juan (or Cabo Cruz)!  Que pasa?  I think you have a case of either (a) too much or (b) not enough cerveza!!!

That is sad about the military. Taking an Electra, putting a slightly deeper front fender and painting it olive drab just isn't the same to me.

I said it in another thread, I see very few differences between the C5 and real Classic bodies. If I put a headlight visor on, repaint my tank, and put on a couple of knee pads and suddenly my bike looks like a C5 with kick start. But it really isn't the same thing. I wish the G5 had the C5 body. If wishes were motorcycles, beggars would ride.

All of this is pretty much moot for me, I love my Iron, I am thinking about a bike for my wife that I won't have to spend too much time on. She hates the Electras and wants a kick start.

I think my wife will sell her Suzi Savage for a C5 when they finally get here, she's got the fever for a new bike as much as I have. Thanks Royal Enfield!

That is a real shame re: the Military. I was looking to get a Chang Jiang before the Enfield but decided I needed something more reliable for a daily runner, saw a military Enfield and got the RE bug, finally opting for the C5.

Seems to me without the crash bars and panniers, well, thats sorta half the "military" package

Chang Jiangs are a lot of fun, I rode a solo for two years, the flathead was fine and smooth but I was an obstacle on the road even with the high gearing in the rear end. The old technology is great fun but it'll get you in trouble on a modern road.
