Throttle cable issue
« on: January 19, 2015, 08:50:51 PM »
Some here are aware that I've had the throttle cable break while riding twice now. The first time, I was able to get a small local shop repair the end and I was back on the road.  The most recent time, a couple of weeks ago, I noticed the plastic inner sleeve that the grip slides onto is also broken at the point where the lead ball slips in and runner guides the cable for a short length before exiting the switch housing.  This broken guide is probably what frayed the cable end to then break over months of service.  I was able to get that local small shop to build me a new cable and housing this past Saturday.  He gave me a new inner sleeve but its not exact match.  The guide stop is in the wrong position and when I put the switch housing on, its too tight and won't allow the throttle grip to roll on properly.  Where can I go and search for a replacement inner sleeve?  I have tried to grind away the excess plastic and makeshift/modify the sleeve but to no avail yet.  I guess they are not as universal as they look.  7/8" bar diameter.  Got any ideas?

thanks in advance.

Thanks guys for the advice.  I've encountered another issue.  While waiting for the throttle tube sleeve from RE member solg, I realized the carb is leaking.  It's done that before and it was a dirty or stuck float seat.  It's a Mickarb VM28.  I would like to go ahead and put a new one on of the same type and model.  Is there anything I should be aware of before buying?  If not mistaken, the main jet on my current carb is 30.  Can I get a new Mikuni VM28 and swap out the jet?  Or do I buy one that has the proper size jet?  Will the flange match up?  It's a round side model.  Mine has the chock lever not the pull knob.

Thanks,

For what it's worth, it is definitely worth it to go with the actual Mikuni as opposed to the mikcarb, and maybe go with the 30mm or even 32 if you plan on doing future upgrades. If you look around, you can find them at a good price.
