Mounting the solo set on an '09 Electra
« on: March 24, 2009, 03:38:32 PM »
So, I got my vintage solo seat yesterday.
It looks HUGE on the counter, but looks cool in place.
I removed the original seat in eager anticipation of parking my arse on this nice springy seat! :D
It comes with 2 BIG brackets, hmmmmmmmmmmmm, I'm mechanically inclined, I can figure this out! ::)
This way, that way, this way that way, swap brackets this way, that, what the F***? ???
Head to this site, type in on the search for mounting ting brackets for solo seats.
AHHHH! a pic comes up- HEY! That's not what MY brackets look like? ??? ??? ???
Back out to the garage..................
I ended up making the slots a bit bigger, (the holes were a TAD too small) and pointing the brackets to the inside, over lapping each other, drilling holes (2) to bolt them together.
It all goes together easy after that, the seat has a slight forward tilt.
If it becomes a problem, I can put a spacer on the front mount to level it.
I MAY be able to post some pics, (I ran over my camera a few weeks ago in the yard with my KTM >:(, (so I'm camera-less) .
A little Pa. ingenuity and it's on

So, I took the bike home from work.
BIG problem.
I seem to sit WAY too high! :o
So, I take it all apart yesterday and looked in the catalog.
Ahhhh, now me sees it Alice ::)
Looking at the braces they send you, you see a BIG hole?
That goes on the bolt that the handle to lift it onto the center stand is.
Given that placement, there is a hole that lines up the spring
So, that being given, I have 2 of the 3 holes locations.
The bracket is too long and 1 hole needs to be drilled to fit over the seat stud!
I cut the bracket pass the stud, (if your gonna do this don't cut the bracket as a 90 degrees, cut the ends back or round it ends, it looks better on the bike.
Put the bracket in place and you can see where you have to drill the hole for the stud.
Paint it all black again and 10 minutes later it's all back together, the seat sits low enough to kinda hide the electronics, knees on the pads nice.
NOW it looks like the picture!
Joe
If it takes me 100 tries, I'll get it right the first time! ;)!

I saw one post where someone got rid of the bracket and put an eye-bolt in on the large nuts up to the springs. Looked pretty good. I am using the brackets myself.

My solo Lycette seat came with two sets of brackets, only the smaller ones would work. I posted a picture somewhere of it. It really would help if CMW added some printed instructions... copied from this forum if necessary :)

I'm still not happy with the brackets I have and may well modify them at some point.. they sit at a bit of an angle and the bolthole is at an angle which could eventually twist.

Still, these seats look good on the bike!
