Some pictures of old R.E's I came across!
« on: October 18, 2007, 07:02:31 AM »
http://www.vintagebike.co.uk/Bike%20Directories/Royal%20Enfield%20Bikes/Royal%20Enfield%20Index.htm  :)

I was actually looking for a picture that showed the horn position on the early 1950,s Bullet. Anyone have such a picture anywhere or can say where it was fitted (left under tank in line with frame etc)? I have mine as in the pic of the 500S on this above site.
Cheers,             Chris

Can't help with the horn, but isn't the Rickman RE just lovely?

My first ever bike was a Rickman Bultaco, just street legal, with raised gearing for the road. Awful quick to about 45. Not an easy kick - 5" lever and ridiculously high compression.
On reflection probably not an ideal beginner's bike - but oh so beautiful!
Seem rare as a very rare thing these days...

They seem to be all over the place. I'm mounting mine as you said "left under the tank ". There is two holes in the neck gusset that appear to the ones used in some of pics I have seen. I really want mine right under the steering stop facing front. That may need a fancier bracket.

Attached is picture of the horn on my '54.  I'm pretty sure that this is the correct mount on the front engine stud.  Yes it will pivot if not tight.

BTW, been meaning to ask, do you own a Lotus Seven.  I have a Jensen Healey with Lotus 907 engine.

Well actually that was the wrong picture but the resolution is good enough where you can zoom in on it.

Don't I just..  Most of the cars, bikes, boats and aircraft I have owned when younger are things I should never have parted with. I had a 1934 Bentley Coupe, that I found in a barn. The guy I sold it to smiled happily as he towed it away. I really should have kept it - he sold it for many thousands.

Just like I wish my father had kept his first car to give to me. A 1932 MG with hand built special racing body. OMG what it'd be worth now!
I also had a 1977 Suzuki GT250C. White tank version that I just liked. Had it from new (only vehicle I have ever owned new) and I found out only recently it was a limited edition colour and Suzuki GB only shipped in six of that colour EVER into the UK!!!!!  :o

Lotus Seven,

Thanks for the pic of the car.  It's so pretty that I'm embarrassed to post a picture my Jensen.  Call it a work in progress.

Took some close up pics of my horn mount.  Friend of mine in the UK just bought a very nice re-pop of the Altette horn.  Looks and sounds just like the original.  Could find out where he got it if you are interested.

Thanks for the horn pix.
Very useful.

I remember considering buying a JS the same as that in yellow. Very hand built cars so things like door skins are individually fitted by 'craftsmen' as you can't get them to fit without fettling 'em first!

For fear of turning this lovely RE bike site into a car one, I'll only post the one of my last big rebuild!!!!
Sure you'll know what it is SRL780

The '47 is very smart!
I think this '48 is either still suffering from attention by someone who thinks he still needs wartime blackout restrictions due to the headlight angle but more likely vibration has got to it and it's dropped!!!
