An Australian dealer has a file that sounds like the AVL motor to me. Click on the "start your engine" button:
http://www.royalenfieldaustralia.com/bullet_classic_efi.php
Then there's this guy (also in Australia) with a couple of good videos that let you hear the sound:

Turns out he recently picked up a 1956 Super Meteor!

You probably want better sound quality, but these are the best media I know of right now. Maybe someone on the forum has recorded their own bike and can post a file.

If you use the Firefox browser, which you should be able to get or upgrade here:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/upgrade.html
you can get the Download Helper plugin, which lets you copy YouTube videos, images, and just about any media onto your hard drive:
http://www.downloadhelper.net/
You should be able to download the high quality version of any of those videos, if it's available, and it should have better sound/visual.
I imagine there are similar plugins for Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, and other browsers, but I don't have experience with them.
Once you have the video on your hard drive, you can use GarageBand or iMovie (if you're a Mac user) to separate out the audio component and save it as a separate file. I don't know what Windows tools are out there.

I'm one of those Apple wierdos.
I looked into what it takes to make it work on a Mac and it looks a little sketchy. The phrase "may cause failures" was used.
I guess I'll keep looking. Thanks anyway.

This one sounds best if you listen to it with headphones...

This guy takes you on a ride with his bike. You have to get through about five minutes before he finally hits the road, but it sounds pretty good once he gets going...
