The passing of Les Paul

Raise a glass tonight to Les Paul who passed away today at age 94! This Man did agreat deal to change and define the way the Electric Guitar is played. A real master of his craft.

I saw him play one of his Monday night gigs at Iridium back when he was a mere 87 years old.  Fabulous show!  H e may not have had the dazzling speed of his younger days anymore, but he had lost none of lyrical qualities or the swing.  He was also charming and very nice to talk to.  Sad to see him go, but I guess you can't complain with making it to 94 and playing right up to the end.

  Amazing man, told my youngest stepson who is very good to take a listen to some of my Les Paul music.  He was quite impressed..and I told him that is the man who the guitar was named for.  He still amazes the generations.  Will.

Caught one of those Iridium gigs also about eight years ago. I went to high school with Paul Nowinski, then the bass player in his trio. So I got to shake the hand of the master. He was very gracious. A true giant.

We must have saw him near the same time.  I went in the winter of 2002 - it was CHEAP to go to NYC then (being not long afte the 9/11 attacks).  He had a really good looking woman as his bass player at the time.
