A kind of 'Before and an on going After' !!!!
« on: December 01, 2007, 05:52:39 PM »
Amazing how many changes one can make to the Bullets
I bought Harry (a 2003 500ES) and then started to do some minior mods almost straight away.
Today I fitted the new shorter exhaust and he does go a lot better. But, it was only when trawling through some pics I realised how very many changes I'd made to get Harry to 'just so' !!!  ::)

Here's as I bought him, but after a thorough wash, clean and polish

And as he is of today!!!!!  :o

Hi Lotus, are you in the UK? If so, where did you get the can from and is it a new downpipe as well? Did you have all that APV rubbish on yours and if so how did you replumb it?

Very good idea, the before and after! I  got my bike just this October, and I will take a good before picture right away to keep it for the same purpose.
My thought is to only improve the breathing/exhaust, by improving the air filter, and the exhaust pipe flow, and that will then lead me to need to rejet the carb.
I hope to do just that and not much more, except to keep things in very good mechanical shape, and I am assuming that the bike has the internal strength today to cope with the additional throughput that the better breathing will bring about.
And this will also address the only superficial gripe I have with the bike - the look of the exhaust pipe, and the change in yours is exactly the change in the look I am seeking. And the improvement that in turn will bring to the sound.
And a final tweak I may do is to look for grippier aftermarket tyres - the stock ones are just about adequate, and I think I would like to be a little safer on my rides than what these currently do for me in that regard.
Has anyone found a way to put tubeless tyres on their bikes yet?
If anything is worth doing, it is worth doing well

Blackthou.

Yep UK based in Kent!
The original idea was to just fit a shorter silencer with the original header pipe, but once I'd won the item from the seller on eBay (he had a good few up for sale) he informed me that his latest stock wasn't right in terms of quality, but he could supply a whole  longer tailed header and a short silencer for the same money. Not the greatest quality in the world being Indian chrome etc and it bit tricky to fit with bracket alignment but it was only 35ukp + postage for the lot!!! The new header of course had no welded-in boss for the PAV (Pulsed Air Valve) so it had to go.
Removal of all the PAV stuff took about 45 mins including finding a rubber blanking plug to go into the now redundant hole in the lhs tool box and blocking the mainfold takeoff hole (after removal of the little pipe) with a JB Weld fixed screw. Much easier than I expected.
Looks nicer and goes a lot better and is certainly more 'thumpy'.

Pictures taken of your original bike are great as you can see where you have come from to arrive at 'your' certain style of bike at a much later date. This helps 'cos you tend to get forget all that you have done along the way!!!

The black cylinder must be a foot peg or an after peg.

Some kind of breather tube would be my guess.

Nah!
That 'original' aircleaner box is now just a receptacle for looking like an old 'un but just has the air passing through it!!!  ;)

L7- you might want to watch your plug. The increased airflow may
lean you out a little.

Thanks Mike, good point.
I have replaced the jets etc recently after a header and silencer change anyway so will be doing some careful watching & listening when weather gets conducive to riding for pleasure not pain!!!
